I did not like this one at all. Not only that, but I hate when a good horror book turns into science fiction and throws aliens at me. If I wanted aliens, I would go read Aliens (shout out to Ripley and Jones). King builds a world like no other. He has the ability to transport you anywhere with his words. However, don't transport me to the mothership in the middle of a horror book. He has done that in several books. So yeah, if you want baby aliens using your butt hole as a means to take you over, this is the book for you. As for me, I was afraid to use the bathroom for weeks after seeing the movie. ...more

To think something could take your appearance over, right down to fingerprints and DNA. It sent shivers down my spine. I was thrilled to have a Holly appearance! I keep hoping King will give her a happy ending, but that wouldn't be Uncle Stevie now, would it. This is a classic King novel that will give you nightmares long after reading. I also saw the miniseries on HBO and loved that as well. Recommend!...more

Across the country, this scene is being played out over and over again. Someone is hunting for children with special abilities, the telekinesis and telepathy kind. Luke is brought to a place called The Institute, where he meets other children just like him. He soon learns that disobedience is not tolerated. The punishments are brutal. Luke finds out The Institute is ruthless with daily testing of his abilities, where he hears something called the Back Half. The Back Half is where kids go and never return. Can Luke find his way out of The Institute clutches? What is the Back Half, and where are the missing children?
I enjoyed the first half of the book. Towards the end, it got messy and boring. There was some serious buildup that went nowhere.

I think King was a little before his time because in recent years people have become seriously addicted to their phones. I know I have to have mine on me at all times. Likewise, I start to panic if I can't find it. Anyway, this book opens up with straight boom. We are thrust into a world where cellphones start ringing, emitting a signal causing their owners to drop into a maniac rage, called The Pulse. Clay, on his way home to his wife and kid, is in the middle of the mayhem. He and his band of refugees tries to make their way to Maine without being beat to death. They start to notice the people affected are following a pattern and a weird signal. Is there a way to stop the madness and return them back to normal? I really liked this book. I thought the idea of our cellphones leading to our eventual demise as unique. Highly recommend.

Our unlikely heroesIt's just another regular day in Chester's Mill, Maine. That is, until an invisible force shield slams down around the whole town. Our unlikely heroes Dale Barbara, a former Iraq vet turned short order cook, Julia Shumway, and three kids are the town's only hope. On the other side of town is Big Jim Rennie, a politician, who is hellbent on keeping control of Chester Mill no matter what it takes. As the battle for control of the town rages on, few realize the real enemy is the dome itself. Time is running out for the residents trapped inside.
First, this is a really long book. Lucky for me, I fell in love with the characters and wanted to see them make it out. It is full of action that rarely slowed down. The fun part was the things happening under the main plot line and told through different points of view. The residents of Chester Mill have some serious dark secrets, it fun to find them out. A lot of people didn't like this book, but I loved it. What knocked a star off was the ending. I was really mad to go through all that and have that crappy ending.

Brady Hartsfield is an evil, psychopath that you love to hate. King weaves his storyline where you are conflicted on feeling empathy for Brady, but hate at the same time. Bill Hodges, a tough, old bastard with a soft heart underneath it all steals the show. I adored all the characters and invested in them. I couldn't put this book down. I had to know how it all played out. This is the King I have been missing. I will never look at the ice cream man the same way again.
