May was my final month serving on the Pinterest Board of Directors. It was an honor to be part of such a capable, professional and dedicated group of Directors. As I made the tough decision to not stand for reelection to the board for personal reasons, it sparked a period of reflection on the past 15 years since we created Pinterest. What struck me most was how grateful I am to have learned so much from our users and team: about inspiration, about social media, and ultimately about the human mind and heart. So as I step off the board, I’d like to share this parting letter I wrote about the Soul of Pinterest, full of things I feel lucky to have learned on this journey. The ideas are simple, and I believe in every word. Thank you so much to everyone who’s worked on Pinterest past, present and future. Special thanks to Bill for his capable leadership of Pinterest into its next exciting chapter, Andrea for her tireless advocacy for the heart of the brand, and most importantly Ben for being my brother and friend on this journey of a life time. I’ve never been more excited about where the company is headed. I know what’s coming next will inspire the world. I can’t wait.

Still remember meeting you both for a casual coffee near Stanford - probably in Fall 2010. The three of us talked a lot about Pinterest, of course, and design blogging (I was one with my small space blog - loving. living. small. - and also writing for Apartment Therapy) at the time, I think us in the beta kept uploading pins of Anthropologie items! You guys were super nice and super gracious. it’s been amazing to watch the journey of Pinterest.

As a former Pinployee and someone who uses Pinterest daily, it truly is the happiest part of the internet and the only place I leave feeling inspired to do things!

So fun to watch you Ben and the company (movement!) grow. Thank you for giving us Pinterest! I still remember my very first board.
