As we wrap up this year's festival season down in Indio, CA it brought us an unexpected twist. While Coachella has long been the crown jewel of music festivals Stagecoach is emerging as a formidable contender and may have just overthrown Coachella this year. Here are just 2 of my thoughts as to why: 1. Genre Appeal: Country music has seen a resurgence in popularity, expanding beyond its traditional audience. Stagecoach capitalizes on this trend, offering a lineup that appeals to both country loyalists and crossover fans. With acts like Wiz Khalifa, Post Malone, Marshmello and so many others showing up there are more eyes on country music than arguably ever before. 2. Audience Experience: With a reputation for a more relaxed atmosphere, Stagecoach offers a different kind of festival experience that might be attracting those looking for something more laid-back than the high-energy hustle of Coachella. As a digital marketing agency with a keen eye on entertainment trends, we at NOX Media are closely watching these developments. What do we mean by authenticity?🤔 One thing really stands out for me when we talk about what young people want from the news is authenticity. ✅ They want to hear from the individuals in news brands and affiliate with the experts, ❌ not the brand itself. They want to hear when you make mistakes, and understand you, your journey, why you care about the topic. But authenticity also involves THEIR role in the news. George Montagu from Financial Times, you worded it so well.  ‘People want to feel involved in the news, they want to feel like their opinion matters and that we're calling upon them to help come up with the solutions’ 🙌 I think for this to work and to be scalable we need to create better ways of engaging on our own platforms and create safe spaces to do this. Money talks in all forms of media and sports media is no different. Well, for these past few years, and especially this year for women’s basketball, money revenue has been powerful. Women’s advertising revenue and overall revenue have skyrocketed. Viewership is up in a big way thanks to stars like Caitlin Clark and recording-setting attention is being delivered. Glad we are seeing women’s sports receive the attention they deserve. After seeing Caitlin Clark's rookie contract value last night, here's to hoping this revenue potential begins to positively influence WBNA earnings in the same way. #WomensSports #Sports #Advertising

We need representation of all. women. in. advertising. I'm so happy to unveil #RepresentMe, a new campaign built for WACL (Women in Advertising & Communications Leadership ), in partnership Pinterest, Snap Inc., and YouTube, spotlighting the crucial need for greater representation of ALL women in advertising. Representation is a marketing imperative. Too many women remain unseen or underrepresented in the media. Critically... (though the spectrum of womanhood expands far past this): ⚈ Women with disabilities are nearly invisible in ads. Research shows only 0.8% of people in ads have a disability, and just 25% of those are women. ⚈ Women of colour, especially Black and South Asian women, are vastly underrepresented compared to their population share, perpetuating harmful stereotypes. ⚈ Ads often push unattainable ideals of beauty, emphasising youth, thinness, and flawless skin - all of which is so damaging Creators have become a driving change in our industry, challenging the status quo in an unprecedented way and highlighting the need for greater representation. Creator Marketing puts new voices, diverse voices, representative voices at the heart of advertising. This campaign features four amazing creators that I've had the privilege to get to know... each of them use their platforms to fight for representation: 💫 Trina Nicole, body confidence influencer and founder of the UK’s first plus-size dance class. 💫 Ellen Jones, writer, speaker and activist for neurodiversity and LGBQT+. 💫 Jamelia Donaldson, founder and CEO of TreasureTress and a woman transforming the natural hair care landscape. 💫 Lucy Edwards, broadcaster, journalist, author and disability activist. This isn't just a campaign; it's a movement pushing the advertising industry to better represent all women, both on and off the screen. Yet there's still much work ahead...Representation must be a marketing priority. A busy morning in the podcast world as the IAB has released the 2023 podcast advertising study & iHeartMedia reported Q1 earnings. Let's dive in! First: IAB The headlines are simple: - Podcast ad revenue grew by 5% in '23, just shy of $2b (US). Yes, this is slower growth than we have seen previously (I can hear those misinformed headlines being typed as we speak!). If you look at the major players and their quarterly earnings over the last year, they all saw growth. So, what slowed down overall revenue? Simply, it was the middle & lower tier of podcasting. Brand dollars went to Spotify, iHeartMedia, SiriusXM, etc., increasing the delta between those platforms & the independent publisher. - But wait, there's more... Podcast revenue is projected to more than double its 2023 ad revenue growth rate in 2024 and is tracking to a total spend of $2.6b by 2026. So what does this mean? This means that podcasting remains very healthy and the best revenue growth opportunity in digital media for the foreseeable future. We're seeing increased revenue growth from all the big players, and those dollars do trickle down to the mid-tier, especially as they tap into existing marketplaces. All is good. https://lnkd.in/eCGxgnUs --- Now, onto iHeartMedia: Overall, the company made $799 million, down YoY by 1.5%. If you take out political revenue, they're down 2.5% (and the stock reflects that, down ≈31% today as of writing this... eesh). Their Digital Audio Group saw revenue of $239m, up 7%. Not bad! Thankfully, iHeart breaks out their podcast numbers, which were $91m, up 18%! If you remove podcast revenue, the digital group is only up 1%. So, like with SiriusXM, we see podcast revenue as the tide raising all boats. So what does that mean? It's the same story as SXM: a declining business focused on radio that is desperately trying to grow its digital initiatives to offset losses from its bread and butter. And podcasting is the only digital venture that is working—and it's working well! But will it work quickly enough? That's a tough one. Podcasting now makes up 11.3% of the overall revenue, which is tremendous growth but needs to be bigger to offset the rest. So, what happens? While the company tries to grow digitally as quickly as possible, it is also creating quite a valuable asset that could be attractive to an outside buyer. $400-500m/yr in revenue with an extensive podcast network, ad marketplace, and technology could be quite the bundle for larger companies that have yet to enter the podcast space... 👀 Never a dull moment! --- I'm the CEO and founder of DWNLOAD Media, a fund focused on acquiring majority stakes in podcast companies. I wanted to share some thoughts on your new body type selector feature—what a fantastic step towards personalizing our feeds! This enhancement truly makes the browsing experience more inclusive and tailored. 😍 I have a suggestion that I believe could take this feature to the next level. What if users could select specific body shapes in addition to general body types? Imagine the impact of allowing users to follow influencers who share their exact body shape, such as pear-shaped individuals following pear-shaped influencers. It’s like having a personal shopping buddy who looks just like you—no more squinting at the screen wondering, “Would that outfit look good on me?” 🙄 Thank you for considering this idea. D.S. & DURGA, started by David and Kavi Moltz, is a high-end fragrance brand that plays with media in some very cool ways. First of all, they make music. An EP in 2019 (”Aromatic Landscapes”) and a single in 2024 for the release of Black Magenta, plus a curated playlist for every fragrance they make. But the crown’s jewel is Perfume Quest, a YouTube show about making perfume for interesting people. Each episode features a different scent, which is then sold on the brand’s website and through all other sales channels. Perfume Quest is entertainment, not advertising: the genuine, fun narrative and high production quality make it something worth watching, even if you’re not into D.S. & DURGA, and potentially even if you’re not into perfume in the first place. This is the same approach Liquid Death has taken to build up the fastest-growing CPG brand in history or that A24 has followed to build the first direct-to-consumer movie studio. Tom Garland and Christopher-Jacques Morency at edition+partners have explained this much better than I ever could in “The Next Big Bang,” their inaugural research report—which I strongly encourage you to check out. For the brand of the future, selling things is just one of a million possible entry points for the consumer. We’ll see (and, in fact, we are already seeing) brands that show up through services, content, and other forms of consumer engagement, all interweaved to tell the same story.
