Senior Director, Talent Acquisition EMEA @ServiceNow | Value-Driven leader, with a passion for building diverse & high performing sales teams.

Last night, we hosted our event "Empowering Excellence - Black Voices in Tech Sales" in partnership with Colorintech. Standing room only, we had over 100's joining us in our iconic London office. And what an audience 🖤 I was trusted to moderate the panel discussion with my amazing colleagues. Victoria Poku, Alanzo Blackstock, Joseph Ibikunle Marinho and Edwina Makumbi shared their respective journeys , how they deal with imposter syndrome, how they navigate bias and still thrive as sales professional in an industry where Black representation stands at 4 % ( source Tech talent charter data 2023) in the UK. My key takeaways : be unapologetically yourself, lead with integrity, be the trusted advisor , learn to be a problem solver, trust is the ultimate currency and if anyone decides to make you feel " illegitimate", the problem is on them, not on you . Thank you for an amazing night , the warm exchanges, the networking and the joy we all shared seeing England's win 🏅

Girls In Tech Closes Its Doors After 17 Years Founded in 2007 by Adriana Gascoigne, Girls in Tech Inc., a global nonprofit dedicated to advancing women in technology, has closed due to insufficient funding. Despite having 130,000 members in 50 cities across 38 countries, the organization struggled financially, particularly in recent years. In 2022, Girls in Tech moved its headquarters from San Francisco to Nashville to optimize operations and reduce costs. However, this strategic shift wasn't enough to overcome their financial challenges. In June, Gascoigne warned that without raising $100,000, the nonprofit faced imminent closure. Despite a fervent fundraising campaign, the funds were not secured. On Monday, an announcement confirmed that without critical funding for 2023 and 2024, the organization had no choice but to cease operations. Over its 17 years, Girls in Tech significantly promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion in the tech workforce, investing in female entrepreneurs, conducting hackathons, and offering boot camps to upskill women in tech. As Gascoigne wrote on LinkedIn, “While Girls in Tech bids you farewell, the journey towards equality doesn’t end here. Together, we can create a future where diversity and innovation thrive.” As we reflect on the closure of Girls in Tech, we must ask: How can we ensure the sustainability of initiatives that drive diversity and inclusion in technology? 🧠So here is a piece I wrote in yesterday's Colorintech newsletter ✍🏾 Let me know your thoughts Alexandr Wang, cofounder and CEO of Scale AI, a startup with a $4 billion valuation caught the attention of some fans on Twitter (x) this week pointing out a new initialism somewhat similar to DEI. Meet “MEI,” short for “merit, excellence, and intelligence”. Naturally the fan (and they usually are men so) boys and critics of corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are latched on to it including the usual suspects of Elon Musk, Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire, and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, all of whom have previously criticized corporate DEI programs as Yahoo helpfully reminds us😅 Now to be fair to him he does say... "There is a mistaken belief that meritocracy somehow conflicts with diversity. I strongly disagree. No group has a monopoly on excellence. A hiring process based on merit will naturally yield a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and ideas."🙌🏾 Although its a bit worrying where he conflates "losers" with some of his hiring practices or dubious behaviours which he himself recognise are Illegal. "We will not pick winners and losers based on someone being the “right” or “wrong” race, gender, and so on. It should be needless to say, and yet it needs saying: doing so would be racist and sexist, not to mention illegal."🤔 For those who have tried to weaponize his words based on the idea that that anyone, regardless of background or upbringing, can succeed through hard work we have some news for you...💁🏾♀️ The problem is, that assertion relies on the starting conditions being equal for all, and they are not. Access to capital, healthcare, education all influence someone's ability to succeed and these things are all influenced by factors including, household location, sexism, racism etc😤 The conflation of DEI ≠ MEI is built on some obviously false things. Let's just remind people pre George Floyd or the Me-too the world wasn't some perfect meritocracy. In fact across all metrics three were less women, People of Colour, Disabled and (pretty much any other group you can think of) participating in all forms of Corporate life. Yet, many businesses are making more money, serving more customers and generally more successful than they were prior (correlation huh? Well the data is clear, the businesses that are the least diverse have done the worst).📉 .... the rest is in the comments

What an incredible day at Meta. My team and I had the chance to dive into Llama 3 with some cool insights from PwC. A big thanks to our awesome host, Seven Jacobs and Colorintech. In the afternoon, we joined a roundtable discussion with Thea Aviss , whose expertise and clarity on LLM use cases were super cool! Love that we actually got to geek out and ask technical questions. A day filled with learning, growth, and connecting with some of the smartest people in the industry! #Meta #SoftwareEngineering #LLM #PwCUK #Networking #Innovation #01Founders #ai Stefan C.
