**Please note this event is online only** Join us on 25/06 at 18:30 for a conversation with Wendy Goucher in interview with Jo Stansfield, MBCS, FHCA to learn about ‘Cyber and Social Engineering: From Nettie to Winnie the Pooh’ as part of the Wominspiration series. Wendy is a Cyber Security Consultant at Arcanum Cyber, where she gets to work with some seriously brilliant people, which is great because she loves working in a team. She specialises in risk and assurance which, after some bumpy journeys along her career path, she found to be an ideal area of cyber security for her because it uses her business focused brain to its best. She also specialises in cyber communications which resulted in her authoring some textbooks, including one for the BCS. Wendy is neuro diverse in that she has dyspraxia and ADHD which brings challenges, but also the sort of creative brain that enabled her to create stories for 4-7 year olds the (Nettie in Cyberland series) and also for 8-11 year olds (Eesha and the Mud Monster Mystery) which help young children to talk about cyber safety and gently learn to act more safely online. The skills she uses for that also helps her to write policies - although they generally have fewer pictures. She also writes cyber safety short stories for senior folk (The Canon Doyle Series) and is slowly recording these as audio stories because even people whose eyesight is failing can be empowered to be safer online. #bcs #wominspiration #bcswomen #womenintech #cybersecurity https://lnkd.in/etsZ6sqg?

MSc Applied Artificial Intelligence candidate at Aston University (School of Engineering & Physical Sciences)| AUC'22

And the journey to greatness continues... Last month, I had the opportunity to present my research abstract at the University of Liverpool for the 2024 BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium, an annual conference for undergraduate and MSc Women in computing 🥳🎉. The uncertainty of job security and the impact of AI on the Future of Work is a topic that deeply intrigues me. My abstract was titled “The Future of Work: Humans or AI?” (If you would like to read my abstract, I have attached it as an image). Lessons learned from this journey: - Self-doubt is a fashion piece that does not look good on you! You can be your greatest supporter and worst enemy. If you believe in yourself, you can get others to believe in you. -Go for it! You might be overthinking that opportunity—just apply. I didn’t win the prize, but I benefited greatly from the experience. Please, go for it! -Take advantage. I’ve reached a point in my career where “everything counts.” I literally take advantage of every opportunity I see because you never know when you'll need it or who you’ll meet. -Involve your friends. I attended the conference with Jessie Ghartey, and she made it worthwhile. Also, shoutout to Eyram Bleboo, Evelyn Amu and my amazing supervisor Abinaya Sowriraghavan for always being available to help. Trust me it doesn’t make you weak to ask for help and support. That being said, see you on my next journey to greatness story😌 P.S. Next time, I would love to read about your journey too! #womenintech #STEM #womeninstem #BCSLL24

It is almost one month after the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium and I still cherish every moment I spent at the University of Liverpool. When I saw the call for abstracts, I was a bit held aback because I felt this is only the start of my journey so what do I know well enough to present? but then I decided to do something last minute, and surprisingly my entry for the conference was accepted and I was eventually selected as one of the finalists to present my poster at the colloquium. It was a very remarkable experience seeing all the young women doing amazing stuff in tech. I was particularly inspired by some of the panelist who just like me started off their careers in different non-STEM fields and are now doing amazing as AI and data specialists (which was what I talked about in my poster entry by the way). I got all the reassurance that I needed to remind myself that I did not make a mistake by transitioning into tech and that with focus and determination, the possibilities are endless . A big shout out to the Hannah Dee and the organizers of this fantastic event for their commitment and support throughout the process. This is another step at recognizing that as women, there’s no dream too big for us to achieve. To the beautiful Temitope Adeyelu and osato ogunbor, thank you for making this journey memorable 🫶🏽

I was in Glasgow last week for some external examining and to check out venue options for BCSWomen Lovelace 2025. Always good to visit Scotland and there are some very nice spaces on Glasgow's campus - Matthew Barr and Anna Doyle showed us around several options for socials and event. There's something about a face to face visit that makes it all seem more concrete. Of course, Safia Barikzai and I had a wagamama too. That's becoming quite a tradition.
