What a buzz during our 30min Ideation Hackathon by SolutionHack this Wednesday! We brought together a diverse group of people from business, tech, design and academia to tackle two challenges: 1. Our challenge from Jennifer von Walderdorff, founder of Look at the Labels: How might we retrieve used, unwanted clothes from customers in an eco-friendly way? 👚 2. Our challenge from Sebastian Castro, founder of Larval: How might we improve food security in the European Union and reduce dependence on imports? 🍎 The task: in only 30 Minutes, define a clear target group you aim to support and discuss a specific problem they face within these challenges. Next: find a way to solve it. And we weren‘t short on innovative ideas. 10 teams pitched, enacted and told stories about the outcomes of their joint ideation. A big congratulations at this point to the winner: Team Green Top, aiming to solve the challenge of food security through creating roof top gardens for local produce. How would you deliver your value proposition if not through your current or planned product? Here‘s the thing. We love thinking in solutions. We get stuck on ideas and then want to build them asap 💡 ⚙ Let me challenge you to something new, as I did during my recent workshop with startup teams at SIBB (EIT Digital) Startup Bootcamp: Think about how you can deliver your value proposition in a simpler, quicker way than building it. How can you do it manually? How would you do it if you wouldn't have anyone to build it? The possibilities are endless. YOU could be the AI finding the right answers to your customers questions. You could stitch together existing, separate tools to explore what a platform would look like. Don‘t just think of a prototype or an MVP as one tiny part of your product but a simplified version of your value proposition. What do you come up with? How might we improve Sustainable Urban Mobility in Berlin? Maybe with a “good”, data-enhanced BVG app or smart glasses? Last week Wednesday, we explored that challenge in an Ideation Hackathon that I organised at Le Wagon Germany's offices, and we were amazed by the creative energy during the evening! Huge thanks to LeWagon and Eduardo Roldan Isaac for partnering with us and providing the perfect space 🙌 We brought together a dynamic mix of innovative minds from various backgrounds including tech, data science, UX/UI, product design, entrepreneurship, and business. The energy in the room was palpable as we embarked on a 30-minute sprint to tackle the challenge of 'Sustainable Urban Mobility in Berlin.' Stimulated by some thought-provoking questions, our teams came up with fantastic pitches, including ideas around: - Virtual commuting - Smart glasses guiding your navigation - A new, “good” & data enhanced BVG App The creativity and enthusiasm were truly inspiring, and who knows, there might be something there for further exploration! 🌟 Congratulations to the winning team Marc Saad, Munnawar Hashim & Bryan Quandt. "People cannot predict their own behaviour." What we hear in customer interviews is not necessarily an indicator for how people will behave. Especially when it comes to their willingness to pay; it's just a starting point. We have to do experiments to learn about actual behaviour. In my recent Workshop at SIBB Startups, I helped the startup teams delve into the intricacies of customer jobs, pains, and gains, setting the stage with key assumptions. The task at the end: conduct 8 customer discovery interviews over two weeks to validate (or invalidate) these assumptions. 💡 One of the standout lessons? Customers often can't predict their own actions. What they say in interviews is just the beginning. The real insights come from observing and experimenting to uncover true behaviour patterns. 🌟 Here’s a pro tip: Instead of relying solely on what customers say they will do, ask about what they currently do and the solutions they've already paid for. This approach paints a more accurate picture of their genuine needs and habits.
