Customers like the suction of the vacuum cleaner. For example, they say it has amazing suction, and a lever to release some suction if you don't want as much. Some mention that it works well and is great for vacuuming carpets and rugs.

"...It does a great job. Good suction. Very easy to change because the control is on the handle. Slides to switch on, carpet, bare floor and off." Read more

"...Vacuum has great suction. With 3 dogs and two cats the hair is awful and it cleaned it right up...." Read more

1,513 customers mention "Quality"728 positive785 negative

Customers are mixed about the quality of the vacuum cleaner. Some mention it does a very good job, is somewhat quiet, and works well overall. They say the pet motorized brush works very well and gets the hair off steps in one pass. However, others say that the brush hairs are long and flimsy, so they collapse into the attachment due to the cheap design. They also say that it broke easily and broke after a year and a half.

"...It does a great job. Good suction. Very easy to change because the control is on the handle. Slides to switch on, carpet, bare floor and off." Read more

"...Downfalls which aren’t too many - the lid over the attachments is a bit flimsy...." Read more

"...Everything else about it is horrible. The "convenient" silly trick way of connecting the floor tool on the go works maybe 30% of the time...." Read more

414 customers mention "Portability"221 positive193 negative

Customers are mixed about the portability of the vacuum cleaner. Some mention that it's lighter in weight than their old one, which is nice. However, others say that it is too heavy for moving up and down stairs.

"...entry level...no on off switch on the handle, but it is smaller and lighter than my old Kenmore...." Read more

"...The weight of the canister is annoying if you need to carry it up and down stairs...." Read more

"This is wonderfully easy on my back as it is pretty lightweight! Nice long cord and good suction, the expandable wand is wonderful too!..." Read more

318 customers mention "Value"170 positive148 negative

Customers are mixed about the value of the vacuum cleaner. Some mention it's solid and a good value for the price, while others say that it broke easily after using it for only about a month. The attachments and parts are cheap and fragile.

"...You can even wash the motor filter, saving $$. Time will tell if it has the same staying power as the Eureka. Bravo for now!!!..." Read more

"...But it's cheap and broke pretty easily after using it for only about 5 or 6 months. The brush roll is jamming and gets hot and smelly...." Read more

"I gotta admit that the quality of the vacuum cleaner is a little bit on the cheap side...." Read more

303 customers mention "Maneuverability"110 positive193 negative

Customers are mixed about the maneuverability of the vacuum cleaner. Some mention that it's very maneuverable, with a lightweight design that makes the machine base spin and move easy. However, others say that the luggage compartment makes mobility difficult, and that the head moves without being pushed. They also say that it sticks up and doesn't swivel well, and the wheels don't roll well.

"...Also the head does not swivel left and right, but I hardly miss that feature...." Read more

"...With the hose attached at the top, it does not want to roll over when its pulled (I don't have stairs so don't know how it handles stairs)..." Read more

288 customers mention "Ease of use"177 positive111 negative

Customers are mixed about the ease of use of the vacuum cleaner. Some mention that it's easy enough to maneuver and switch utensils, and very convenient. They also say that the controls are very easy to use and you can easily change the length of the wand to suit. However, others say that it is cumbersome to use, very inconvenient to use.

"...It does a great job. Good suction. Very easy to change because the control is on the handle. Slides to switch on, carpet, bare floor and off." Read more

"...bad engineering in this thing that it makes an already mundane chore positively nauseating." Read more

They also mention that there is a connection of the tube for the nuckles that is enormous.

"...Hose is a tad short. But the tube can be lengthened to compensate. Taller folks will like the extra length...." Read more

Suction hole too small. Aerodynamics of floor attachment are wrong, dirt on sides doesn't suck up

Suction hole too small. Aerodynamics of floor attachment are wrong, dirt on sides doesn't suck up
I was so excited when I ordered this vacuum for my company. When it arrived I opened it right up and tried it out. The floor attached fell off 5 times. It's supposed to lock in place. The hole on the floor attachment is about 1.5 inches, suction is good but the attachments has no aerodynamics, so it didn't pick stuff up unless you pick the hose up and put it on tip of the debri, unless it's small speckles of dirt and is lined up right in the front area of the floor attachment. The rug attachment works okay, but it does not compare to my Bissell upright pet vacuum. I bought this so I could just bring 1 vacuum, because it's 2 in 1. I have to return it because it is not a good vacuum. 😕This makes me sad because I live Kenmore products, but they missed the mark on this vacuum. It needs a redesign. Too many fancy beers and whistles and not enough aerodynamics and suction power. Too heavy!Eureka mighty max is by far the best vacuum I've ever owned. But it doesn't have a carpet attachment. I'll have to keep bringing 2 vacuums with me until I find the next best 2 in one vacuum.

My Eureka Oxygen Vacuum of 24 years finally died. It was an excellent vacuum. I spent a lot of time researching vacuums to replace it. This Kenmore 81414, at first use, appears to be an excellent twin.
Pluses:
The canister follows me easily. With the hose attached at the top, it does not want to roll over when its pulled (I don't have stairs so don't know how it handles stairs)
Hose is very sturdy. No crimping or collapsing.
Attachments come on & off easily. ++ for me is my Eureka attachments fit like they were made for the Kenmore.
Cord is longer than my old vacuum.
The tube adjusts up and down with a push of the button, easy for hands that are now painful.
The canister weighs 11 pounds, lighter than my Eureka at 15 pounds. (one review called it super heavy at the online listing of 22 pounds. This weight must have been the canister, hose & carpet power brush! I actually weighed both canisters)
Power carpet brush has an edge cleaner on Both Sides of the head. (It was hard to find a vacuum with a power carpet brush. Most use suction only)
Noise level is about the same as the Eureka. The Eureka's description was listed as "quiet". Tho I suspect the newer vacuums may be quieter with new technology.
Price point - at $239 (4-18-2024) it is not an arm & a leg like so many of the other brands.
Negatives:
Dusting brush is kind of wimpy. Not an issue for me as the Eureka duster fits well.
Hose is a tad short. But the tube can be lengthened to compensate. Taller folks will like the extra length.

This Kenmore has all the features I liked about my Eureka. You can even wash the motor filter, saving $$. Time will tell if it has the same staying power as the Eureka. Bravo for now!!!

Oh, in re-reading my review I realized I didn't say anything about how the vacuum cleaned. It does a great job. Good suction. Very easy to change because the control is on the handle. Slides to switch on, carpet, bare floor and off.

I own the same model of this vacuum from 25 years ago. I loved that vacuum more than I can say. Tried to get it repaired, but they no longer sell the parts, which is unfortunate. The newer one, though, has all the features I loved plus one that I really need, but didn't know I needed. I also own a Miele canister vacuum so I'll share some notable differences.

PROS
1. This vacuum has a light (and it the light is operational even when you disconnect the powered floor nozzle and use only the part made for hardwood floors). Mieles with similar price points do not have any light, and the light is really useful for illuminating where the dirt is under couches and under furniture, esp if you have pet hair.
2. The suction is incredibly strong and adjustable. Could probably suck up a small cat from about 30 feet away. j/k but it's intense. Miele's has great suction too.
3. The on/off switch is located on the handle, so you don't have to bend down. Miele has the power switch on the canister itself. Ostensibly you can use your foot to turn the switch on/off on the Miele, but I've had to bend down often to get it to turn on, and often the canister is far away, so if you want to turn the suction up or down or turn off the machine momentarily, say to pick something up, the location of the switch makes a big difference.
4. The floor cleaning nozzle is two-in-one (one powered for carpets and one unpowered made for hardwood that just glides effortlessly and picks up everything on the first try). When I have used the (un)powered Miele floor brush attachment, it often makes smaller bits (like cat litter) shoot all over the place. Miele has a similar tool, but you have to bend down to change the nozzle head and it still doesn't pick up small bits on hardwood as well. With the Kenmore, you just use your foot to pull out the floor brush from the motorized nozzle. Easy and quick and no fussing with finding a different attachment and bending down to affix it.
5. All of the attachments (including the powered pet mate attachment) are stored inside the canister with a lid. Miele's storage is flimsy and not contained, so I found that the attachments would routinely fell off their caddy.
6. Power cord is retractable (same as Miele, but the button on the Kenmore is larger and easier to use).
7. Both the suction tube connecting the floor wand to the canister AND the power cord are significantly longer than the Miele's. I have a very small apartment, and this still annoyed me. If you want to be able to clean without having to plug and unplug the vacuum regularly, the extra length is lovely.
8. The floor nozzle on the Kenmore can almost go flush with the ground and the attachment still stays level so it can vacuum under furniture effectively even if it's quite a distance back. The Miele's floor attachment pops up (becomes unlevel with the floor) when you try to make the handle level with the floor. I do have to say, my 25 yo Kenmore could go completely flush with the ground, perhaps even lower and still remain level. So I'm bummed that the new one can't go completely flush, but it's still able to vacuum more flush than the Miele.
9. Kenmore is cheaper than most Mieles.

Having enjoyed most of the above features on my 25 year old Kenmore, I was disappointed by the Miele.

CONS
1. The canister and wand on the Kenmore are heavier than the Miele. The weight of the canister is annoying if you need to carry it up and down stairs. And although I don't have any stairs, I imagine the Miele would be easier for stairs.
2. The wheels don't work perfectly on the Kenmore (they were fabulous on my older model). So while canister vacuums are always a little clumsy, I find maneuvering with the Miele easier.

That's about it. I like having both vacuums, but if I had to choose one, it would no contest: I would go with the Kenmore. If money weren't an object, perhaps the top-of-the-line Mieles would match the features on this Kenmore, but for twice the price or more.

This is a review of the Kenmore 81214 200 Series bagged canister vacuum cleaner. The full model number is 125.81214610. I bought this to replace a Kenmore vacuum that was more than ten years old. That one ran fine and continued to do a good job of cleaning carpet. It failed because the wand connections stopped working. Nevertheless, it earned my customer loyalty because I stuck with the Kenmore brand.

This new Kenmore 200 Series has excellent suction and a very effective beater brush that turns on and off at the handle. To turn on the vacuum, you must use a foot switch on the canister section (or bend over and push it by hand). In vacuuming the same floors I have always cleaned, I noticed that the cord is about three feet shorter than before. The way the hose attaches to the canister is also different. The connector sticks straight up from the canister instead of arching over parallel with the floor. It still allows the canister to be pulled around effectively. There are the same large plastic wheels and the same rubber bumper as before, and the noise level is the same. So I hardly noticed the difference between the old one and the new one except that the new model cleans better and quicker.

There is no attachment for cleaning carpeted stair steps with this model. From my point of view, that was a plus because it apparently simplifies the wand connections and keeps the cost reasonable, and I don't have any carpeted stairs anyway. Also the head does not swivel left and right, but I hardly miss that feature. The bracket that allows the basic attachments to ride on the wand is a bother. I just keep those pieces in the closet and get them out when I need them.

This model has HEPA filtration and uses the Kenmore C bags which are easy to find in stores. This keeps all the dust and dirt contained and easy to dispose of. Overall this is a fine cleaner at a good price point.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST canister vacuum for the money
Reviewed in Canada on February 18, 2024

You cannot beat Kenmore canister vacuums for longevity. My 30-year-old Kenmore vacuum is still going strong. I bought this vacuum so that I do not have to carry vacuums between floors at my home; now there is one on each level. I like ALMOST everything about this new vacuum. My key points:
PROS: Excellent suction; simple design with less electronic gadgets to break; excellent quality hose; can use either HEPA dust bags or regular dust bags (much less expensive); very light and maneuverable.
CONS: Short hose length (6ft long; old Kenmore hose is 8ft long); all attachments are cheaply made (shame on you Kenmore!); comes with a regular dust bag installed and NOT a HEPA dust bag as you would expect based on the advertising (not a deal breaker for me).
SUMMARY: Despite a couple shortcomings, I highly recommend this vacuum; great value for the money!

After messing around with Hoovers and Dysons we came back to Kenmore. Very happy. The unit is well made (although its largely plastic), suction is incredible (!!), the Dirt Sense is very interesting, the Crossover is kind of cool. Overall we are very happy. Met my expectations and then some. We almost bought the Elite for about $150 more but the Crossover has all the same key features. Highly recommended! No regrets.

J'espere qu'il me durera longtemps.

I ordered this vacume cleaner because I always had good experience witj Kenmore vacuume cleaners. However I had to return this one as it is very heavy and carrying it up and down the stairs in my 2 story house was not easy. I purchased a Miele instead and I shoyld say very powerful and half a weight of Kenmore.
