AI Airlines Revolution

NDTV

AI is transforming the aviation industry, experts shared at the 80th International Air Transport Association (IATA) meeting. Julie Pozzi of Air France-KLM highlighted AI's potential to boost productivity. The airline is rolling out over 40 AI projects, including a multilingual customer service tool by 2025.

Groupe ADP, managing Paris airports, uses AI to improve operations, cutting unanswered calls by 80% and optimizing shuttle rotations. Jerome Bouchard from Oliver Wyman noted AI's role in reducing wait times but emphasized the need for better data coordination.

While AI advances, piloting remains human-controlled. Thales CEO Patrice Caine supports "assisted intelligence" to aid decision-making.

AMD vs NVIDIA vs INTEL

Windows Central

Nvidia and AMD have launched new AI chips in Taiwan, escalating competition with Intel. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, introduced the Rubin platform, featuring advanced GPUs, CPUs, and networking chips, set for release in 2026. This follows the Blackwell platform, launched earlier this year. Nvidia aims to sustain its dominance, controlling around 70% of the AI chip market, with its shares more than doubling in the past year.

AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, revealed the MI325X accelerator, coming in late 2023, and announced a yearly update plan for new products, with the MI350 in 2025 and MI400 in 2026. Both companies, traditionally known for gaming GPUs, now prioritize AI applications.

Intel is set to launch its Arrow Lake CPUs later this year, with CEO Patrick Gelsinger speaking at the Computex trade show.

Tech companies bet on carbon removal startups

Reuters

Carbon removal is now crucial for tech giants aiming to meet climate goals. Projects like direct air capture and reforestation are essential to achieve net-zero targets.

Karan Mistry of Boston Consulting Group highlights the necessity of carbon removal investments. The Frontier Fund, including Alphabet, JPMorgan, and Meta, has committed to removing over 510,203 tons of carbon.

AI and data processing demand significant energy, increasing emissions. Investments in carbon removal startups surpassed $1 billion in 2023. Microsoft has purchased over 7.6 million carbon credits since 2020 but faces rising emissions.

With potential regulations, demand for carbon credits may exceed supply. Direct air capture is precise but costly, while tree planting has permanence issues.

The Biden administration supports the carbon market to achieve net-zero by 2050. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen urges companies to use all tools available while prioritizing emission reductions.
