I think this could’ve been a lovelier 4 star message if it would’ve been just a tad less allegorical and repetitive; and the ending far less corporate.
The movie clip is perfect adaptation. Right to the point, 15 min, without all the excessive repetition and almost none of the corporate stuff.

Creo que hubiera sido un mensaje de 4 estrellas mucho más lindo si tan sólo hubiera sido un tanto menos alegórica y repetitiva; y el final mucho menos corporativo.
El cortometraje es una perfecta adaptación. Directa al punto, 15 min, sin la excesiva repetición y casi nada del mambo corporativo.

This is sort of an anti-hero self-help book, something you should read (or hear) if you feel the world weighing up a little bit too much. It just unburdens you of some stuff. No real groundbreaking philosophy, just a couple of useful hints and insights on how to take things more lightly, when taking them seriously is hurting you.
Chapters 1 and 2 were pure magic. The kind of magic that wouldn't be too bad to hear once or twice a year. If not for the hints, for the laughs. There are also some interesting comments on chapter 8, and some anecdotes here and there. The rest of the book was kind of meh. Funny meh, sure, but typical self-help textbook lines that tires a bit, if not a lot.
Couldn't be happier to have chosen audio rather than ebook. Cursing can seem very aggressive when reading it on text, but hearing it through the voice of the narrator it became so much easier, and funnier.
Tips: Don't take it too seriously, develop a tolerance to hear the word f*ck once too many often, and just enjoy the ride.

No es sobre que nada te importe un c*rajo. Es sobre que te importe un c*rajo sólo las cosas importantes. En esencia, la pregunta es, debería realmente importame un c*rajo?
Este es como el anti-heroe de los libros de autoayuda. Algo que uno debería leer (o escuchar) si empezás a sentír que el mundo te pesa mucho sobre los hombros. Sólo te libera de algunas cosas. No tiene ninguna filosofía innovadora, sólo un par de consejos y observaciones sobre cómo tomar las cosas más ligeramente, cuando tomártelas en serio te hace daño.
Los capítulos 1 y 2 fueron pura magia. Ese tipo de magia que no viene mal escucharla una o dos veces al año. Sino por los consejos, por las risas. Tiene también algunos comentarios interesantes en el capítulo 8, y alguna que otra anéctoda aquí y allá. El resto del libro es medio meh, meh gracioso sí, pero típica retórica de autoayuda que cansa un poco, sino mucho.
No podría estar más feliz de haberlo escuchado en vez de leerlo. Las puteadas pueden sonar muy agresivas cuando uno las lee en texto, pero escucharlas a través de la voz del narrador hace que sea mucho más ameno, y gracioso.
Consejos: No tomarlo muy en serio, desarrollar una tolerancia a escuchar puteadas algo más que seguido, y sólo disfrutar el viaje.

A spiritual journey of self-discovery and personal growth along the ancient Way of St James, a christian pilgrimage route that was famous through all Middle Age, and still persists to this day.
I like everything spiritual, but this felt more on the religious side, and that doesn’t appeal me that much.
All of Coelho’s works tend to be spiritually revealing, although after reading many of his books eventually they all end up feeling more of the same to the point that the only thing that truly makes a difference is the story. And sadly this one didn’t. It’s interesting alright, but lacks that 'mind blowing' effect that characterizes many of his other works.
I LOVED Veronika decides to die and can’t recommend it enough, but can’t recommend this one. The Alchemist is also good.

Un viaje espiritual de autodescubrimiento y crecimiento personal a través del antiguo Camino de Santiago, una ruta peregrina cristiana que supo ser famosa durante toda la Edad Media, y que persiste aún al día de hoy.
Me gusta todo lo espiritual, pero esto se sintió más de lado religioso, y eso no me atrae tanto.
Todas las obras de Coelho tienden a ser espiritualmente reveladoras, aunque después de leer muchos de sus libros eventualmente todos terminan pareciendo lo mismo hasta el punto que lo único que realmente destaca es la historia. Y lamentablemente esta no lo hace. Es interesante, pero carece de ese increíble efecto “vuela la mente” que caracteriza muchas de sus otras obras.
AME Veronika decide morir y no me canso de recomendarla, pero no puedo recomendar este. El Alquimista también es bueno.

Unnamed MC has enough personal problems as it is, it doesn’t get any easier when he receives a phone call from the hospital. Mary, his fiancée, has suffered a major accident, and is agonizing. On her deathbed, Mary just asks him one thing, to go and visit the old Bowman Amusement Park, for her. When he arrives the place looks totally in ruins, and long abandoned since that terrible accident that happened many years ago; but when he walks through the doors, light floods it all, and everything returns to life.
I cannot begin to explain how much I LOVED this thing. This book came just at the right time, more than a decade ago, and left me so many tearing moments I’ll never forget (view spoiler)[ The video message, the ship duel, the strong man, the final notice… (hide spoiler)]. This little story tore me to pieces and disarmed me in ways few books ever did, then put back together a more hopeful version of me before letting me go, and I LOVE it for it. It was simply perfect.
This story is supposed to be a thinly veiled self-help book, so I don’t think this book is for everybody. I’m sure it’s plagued with symbolism, metaphors and whatnot; but as usual I never noticed a thing, and frankly I couldn’t care less. Did I remain at the most basic and obtuse level of understanding? Quite possibly. But often that’s the level where magic happens, and where magic, unexplained, remains magic.
For me this was just a magical tale, and doesn’t need to be anything else. One of the most tearing and uplifting things I’ve ever read, with a shattering ending I can never forget, and strongly wish I could, just so I can reread it, and surprise myself, once again.

Un desconocido personaje ya tiene suficientes problemas personales, las cosas no se vuelven más fáciles cuando recibe una llamada desde el hospital. Mary, su prometida, ha sufrido un horrible accidente, y está agonizando. En su lecho de muerte, Mary sólo le pide una cosa, que vaya y visite el viejo Parque de Diversiones Bowman, por ella. Cuando llega el lugar parece estar totalmente en ruinas, y largamente abandonado desde ese terrible accidente que sucedió años atrás; pero cuando cruza las puertas, la luces se prenden, y todo parece cobrar vida.
No puedo ni empezar a explicar cuánto AME esta cosa. Este libro llegó justo en el momento adecuado, más de una década atrás, y me dejó un montón de momentos desgarradores que nunca voy a olvidar (view spoiler)[ la video llamada, el duelo en el barco, el hombre fuerte, el aviso final… (hide spoiler)]. Esta pequeña historia me rompió en pedazos y desarmó en formas que pocos libros jamás lograron, y luego armó una versión más optimista de mí antes de dejarme ir, y lo AMO por eso. Fue simplemente perfecto.
Esta historia es supuestamente un tenuemente disfrazado libro de autoayuda, así que no creo que este libro sea para todos. Estoy seguro que está plagado de simbolismos, metáforas y dios sabe qué; pero como siempre yo nunca noté nada, y francamente no podría importarme menos. ¿Acaso permanecí en el nivel más básico y obtuso de entendimiento? Muy posiblemente. Pero con frecuencia ese es el nivel donde sucede la magia, y donde la magia, sin explicar, sigue siendo magia.
Para mí esta sólo fue una historia mágica, y no necesita ser más nada. Una de las más desgarradoras y elevadoras cosas que leí jamás, con un final devastador que nunca puedo olvidar, y que fuertemente desearía poder hacerlo, sólo para poder releerlo, y sorprenderme, una vez más.

There is something very wrong with the world. Veronika wants to die. And she can certainly try, but she can also, certainly, fail. Committed to an insane asylum, she may actually find sanity in the craziest places of all.
Unfortunately, I cannot really go into much detail without spoiling much of the book's content, so I'm just going to say that those few who decide to read it may find in it a beautiful profoundly moving story, about life, and death.
Veronika is one of those characters that, despite all circumstances, you cannot but find her tragically adorable.
This is one of those 'love it or hate it' books, so you are probably going to love it plainly, or hate it deeply. You can tell which side the coin toss landed for me.

Hay algo muy mal en el mundo. Veronika quiere morir. Y ciertamente lo puede intentar, pero también puede, ciertamente, fallar. Confinada a un manicomio, puede que halle la cordura en el lugar más loco de todos.
Desafortunadamente, no puedo entrar en mucho detalle sin arriesgarme a arruinar mucho del contenido del libro, así que sólo voy a decir que aquellos pocos que decidan leerlo puede que encuentren en él una hermosa y profundamente conmovedora historia, sobre la vida, y la muerte.
Veronika es uno de esos personajes que, a fuerzas de las circunstancias, uno no puede evitar encontrarla trágicamente adorable.
Este es uno de esos libros de 'ámalo o ódialo', así que probablemente vas a amarlo plenamente, u odiarlo ferveramente. Podés adivinar de qué lado cayó la moneda en mi caso.

A prideful noble warrior likes to help everyone in need and wear his shiny armor every single day, but eventually, due to extreme overuse, one day he gets stuck in it and can’t remove it anymore, turning his life into a living nightmare. One day he crosses paths with a wise wizard, who points him to the right direction; and to some castles where at the end may find the help he so desperately needs.
This little gem of 74 pages that you can read in a heartbeat is one of the best self-help books I’ve ever read, and if not the best, it’s the second. Anyone lucky enough to deeply emotionally connect with it, will surely find by the end an extremely touching experience not likely to ever forget.
A word of advice. Some people tend overanalyze this story and the secret meaning of each concept. To me that’s a fantastic way to ruin a beautiful thing. I couldn’t mention one symbolism not even if I tried, and don’t care to.
To me this was just an amazingly uplifting story that lifted my heart from some serious heavy burden, and I love if for it. It wowed me, and I teared. It didn’t change my life, but it sure made it brighter. And a decade later there’s no day I don’t wish to reread it again hoping to be amazed as I was the first time. Highly Recommendable.

Maravillosamente Inspirador.
Un orgulloso noble guerrero disfruta usar su brillante armadura cada día y ayudar a todos quienes lo necesitan, pero eventualmente, por darle tanto uso, un día se queda atascado en ella y no puede volvérsela a quitar, tornando su vida una pesadilla viviente. Un día cruza camino con un sabio mago, quien lo pone en la dirección correcta, y hacia unos castillos donde al final puede que encuentre la ayuda que tan desesperadamente necesita.
Esta pequeña joya de 74 páginas que se puede leer en un suspiro es una de los mejores libros de autoayuda que jamás leí, y si no es el mejor, es el segundo. Cualquiera que sea lo suficientemente afortunado de profundamente conectar emocionalmente con él, seguramente encontrará al final una extremadamente conmovedora experiencia que probablemente nunca olvidará.
Un pequeño consejo. Alguna gente tiende a sobre analizar esta historia y el secreto significado de cada concepto. Para mí esa es una fantástica forma de arruinar algo hermoso. Yo no podría mencionar un sólo simbolismo ni aunque lo intentara, y no me importa.
Para mí esta fue sólo una maravillosamente inspiradora historia que quitó de mi corazón un enorme peso, y lo amo por ello. Me maravilló, y lagrimee. No cambió mi vida, pero sí que la hizo más brillante. Y una década después no hay día que no quisiera volverlo a leer deseando que me sorprendiera tanto como esa primera vez. Altamente Recomendable.

Y como casi todos los novatos hacen, empieza con lo que todo princincipiante está destinado a hacer, fallar. Y fallar espectacularmente! Pero la práctica hace al maestro, y Juan Salvador está en una misión de vida para alcanzar lo imposible, y algo inimaginablemente más lejos que ser sólo maestro.
Una inspiradora pequeña novella sobre mejorarse uno mismo, seguir tu pasión, y perseguir tus sueños, sin conocer límites. Una lectura realmente destacable. Altamente recomendable.

Andalusia, Spain. Young poor shepherd Santiago has a very vivid dream in which he finds some lost treasure in a remote unknown location. After consulting a fortune teller, he learns that in order to find it he may need to travel as far as the Egyptian pyramids. A practically impossible task, since he doesn’t have a map, any rational reason, or even the means to fulfil it. This is the story of his fantastic journey, and how he attempts to fulfill a wild quest, that could potentially change his life.
Coelho’s most acclaimed masterpiece and famed work hands down; a very short allegorical tale about listening to your heart, and following your dreams, no matter what. I particularly enjoyed the exchanges with the mysterious old king, the time spent with the crystal merchant, and meeting Fatima, the desert girl. The oasis and the encounter with the Alchemist was good, but felt a bit farfetched, and his teachings somewhat repetitive. Still, a considerable amount of quotes and moments to remember by; with some very nice plot twists, a sublimely satisfying ending, and a spiritually uplifting message. I remember enormously enjoying this novella back in the day, the wowing feeling sadly gradually diminishing over the years. Still, I don’t regret reading it; this was overall a worthy read, and memorable, despite de glaring self-help vibes. I liked learning about the “Personal Legend”, among other curious esoteric concepts. Recommendable, for the right audience.
Personally I must admit I enjoyed Veronika Decides to Die a lot more; but if you ever had in mind picking up Coelho someday, this is a good choice too. A highly uplifting story with a very memorable message, for those willing to listen to it.

Andalucía, España. El joven y pobre pastor Santiago tiene un sueño muy vívido en el que encuentra un tesoro perdido en un remoto y desconocido lugar. Después de consultar una adivinadora, descubre que para hallarlo necesitaría viajar tan lejos como hasta las pirámides egipcias. Una tarea prácticamente imposible, ya que no posee un mapa, ni una razón racional, o los medio para completarla. Esta es la historia de su fantástico viaje, y cómo intenta lograr una alocada misión, que potencialmente podría cambiar su vida.
La obra maestra más aclamada y famosa de Coelho por lejos; un muy corto relato alegórico sobre escuchar tu corazón, y seguir tus sueños, sin importar qué. Particularmente disfruté los intercambios con el misterioso viejo rey, el tiempo que transcurrió con el mercader de cristales, y el encuentro con Fátima, la chica del desierto. El oasis y el encuentro con el Alquimista fue bueno, pero se sintió un poco demasiado increíble, y sus enseñanzas un tanto repetitivas. Aun así, una considerable cantidad de citas y momentos para el recuerdo; con unas muy interesantes vueltas de trama, un sublimemente satisfactorio final, y un mensaje espiritualmente elevador. Recuerdo disfrutar esta novela corta enormemente en su día, la maravillosa sensación de asombro lamentablemente gradualmente disminuyendo con el correr de los años. Sin embargo, no me arrepiento de haberla leído; esta fue por sobre todo una valiosa lectura, y memorable, a pesar del llamativo tinte de autoayuda. Me gustó conocer la “Leyenda Personal”, entre otros curiosos conceptos esotéricos. Recomendable, para la audiencia correcta.
Personalmente debo admitir que disfruté “Veronika Decide Morir” mucho más; pero si alguna vez tuviste en mente leer Coelho algún día, “El Alquimista” es también una buena elección. Una historia altamente elevadora con un mensaje muy memorable, para aquellos dispuestos a escucharla.

But his idyllic affair is short lived, as his personal desires clashes with the destiny all-mighty God set before him. What is he to do now?
A story partially based on the book of Kings of the old testament Bible, with a load of fictional content added by Coelho. The story of a prophet and his city. A profoundly allegorical story that teaches us to strive for what we want, and always keep moving forward, regardless of the obstacles. I usually enjoy inspirational readings but this one felt way too religious for my taste, and that kills my drive and attention. Maybe a different scenario could’ve worked better? Also the so called ‘lessons’ were kind of obvious and unbearably repetitive most of the time. On the whole I found this book ok, but I can’t recommend it. Not my fav Coelho. ‘The Alchemist’ and ‘Veronika Decides to Die’ are very good though.

A veces uno necesita destruir para poder reconstruir.
Israel, Siglo IX AC. Elijah es un profeta fugitivo, huyendo de una purga religiosa empezada por la Reina Jezebel. Al llegar a la tierra de Zarephath, se enamora perdidamente de una mujer local. Pero su idílico romance dura poco, ya que sus deseos personales chocan con el destino que Dios todopoderoso puso para él. ¿Y qué va a hacer ahora?
Una historia parcialmente basada en el libro de los Reyes del viejo testamento de la Biblia, con un montón de contenido ficcional añadido por Coelho. La historia de un profeta y su ciudad. Una historia profundamente alegórica que nos enseña a luchar por lo que queremos, y siempre seguir adelante, a pesar de los obstáculos.
Usualmente disfruto de lecturas inspiradoras pero esta se sintió demasiado religiosa para mi gusto, y eso aniquila mi envío y atención. ¿Tal vez un escenario distinto hubiera funcionado mejor? También las supuestas ‘lecciones’ me resultaron algo obvias e insoportablemente repetitivas la mayor parte del tiempo. En su conjunto el libro me pareció ok, pero no lo puedo recomendar. No es mi favorito de Coelho. Aunque ‘El Alquimista’ y ‘Veronika Decide Morir’ sí que son muy buenos.
