The Houston Endowment champions causes that are close to the hearts of Houston residents: public parks, fine arts, civic participation and education. The foundation paid out some $78 million in grants to local school districts, arts organizations, environmental groups and others in 2021, according to tax records. Despite its stature, the 86-year-old organization has always maintained a low profile for itself, saving the spotlight for the enterprises that it supports.
