I have been investigating quality MicroSD cards for sometime now, for drones and Raspberry Pi computers. Read/Write Speeds are critical to proper performance, as well as reliability.After much research and recommendations I focused on the SanDisk products, but soon found myself in a sea of counterfeit memory cards. With more research I found that SAMSUNG has a verification app you can run to verify if your SAMSUNG card is legitimate - very helpful. I therefore switched to SAMSUNG, they have been very good and very reliable and well priced. I do know that Amazon has an agreement with SAMSUNG and sell the SAMSUNG EVO Select cards exclusively to Amazon for distribution. I can use these in an old Sony HDR-PJ540 camcorder, which already has internal storage, but as external storage. What needs to be mentioned is, that the SD cards which I received were apparently formatted with exFAT, which is usually a good option for modern technologies. However, that old camcorder was designed before the exFAT specifications were made public, and it could not recognize the SD card as it was shipped. Yet, using a Linux computer, I was able to format the net 59GiB to regular FAT32, which any Windows computer will refuse to do. So next, my camcorder had arranged its initial folder layout, and indicated I have 7 hours of recording capacity at 1920x1080 (in much shorter than hour-long clips).

The only issue which created some unease was, that although some sources state this camcorder can take 64GiB SD cards, Windows would usually not format anything bigger than 40GiB to FAT32. So, I haven't made the experiment, of finding out whether my camcorder will quit on me, when recording with FAT32.

Users will have these sorts of issues with removable storage volumes, without the issues being the fault of the volume physically. What somebody else would do in my position is, just to reformat the cards to NTFS, or to exFAT, whichever works for you. But, NTFS does not jibe well with Linux.

P.S. I have now performed the experiment of reformatting one of the received SD cards with exFAT under Linux, and found that the camcorder accepts the result. Analyzing a card taken out of the camcorder earlier reveals that it records 1920x1080 MTS video at a plausible 14.4Mb/sec, which is also 6.48GB /hour. And thus, my recording mode of 1920x1080 + 1280x720 + audio leaves me with 7 hours of total capacity.

I must now reach the conclusion that there is something wrong with the exFAT formatting of these SD cards, as they ship, which will cause some appliances not to accept them. However, since I had the foresight to check this out, it will never be an impediment for me. It would be a problem for people who buy the SD cards, then commit data to them, and thirdly find that some appliance will not accept them, because at that point, to reformat the SD card so that the 3rd device accepts them, will also forfeit the stored data.

I mean other than being lied to about the capacity (like Wish does), can you really go wrong with these? I used it in a security camera and it did what it was supposed to. I never ended up transferring any of that video to my computer, so I can't comment on the transfer speeds. Other than that, it worked fine. I've lost it somewhere now as I switched my cameras to cloud saving and put it somewhere, but perhaps one day we will be reunited.
