A friend knocked his monitor off his desk, rendering the picture all out of sync. I suggested it might just be the HDMI connector and I purchased this HDMI to VGA adapter hoping the theory was correct.

Initially it didn't work, so I took a closer look at the settings and found it defaulted to 59hz refresh rate, swapped it to 60hz and the picture came up right away. Actually better than before, the colors were crisper. $300 monitor saved with a $10-15 cable.

Would, and probably will buy again for clumsy friends and acquaintances.

I foolishly bought this product not reading the detailed description. The signal in this cable only goes 1 way. Source must be HDMI, Monitor/TV mist be VGA. It will not work the other way around as I learned the hard way, trying to connect my laptop's VGA port, to a newer HDMI cable.

I wanted to use this to plug my MiSTer FPGA into a 4:3 monitor in an arcade cabinet that I have. I'm using the Direct Video option on the MiSTer, which has a great looking signal, the caveat is that for some reason it seems to be offset quite significantly to the right. This isn't a problem with the cable, I tried other options and had the same result, it's an issue with the way the MiSTer's signal is output and interpreted by the display.
The cable works great, trying with other sources worked perfectly fine.
