For the second year in a row, Lunar Energy sponsored the Future of Utilities event where we announced our exciting new partnership with EDP! Throughout the conference, there was an overarching theme of digitalization. Residential distributed energy resources (DERs) — such as batteries and EVs — can play a big part in shaping the energy market of the future and utilities are actively searching for ways to visualize and control DERs. During that journey the end user can’t be left behind. Business models and incentives need to have the end user at the center of the solution. What seems simple may not be for the end user, multiple apps and bad user experience can seriously hinder DER adoption. As well, if everyone benefits from having load-shiftable DERs we can’t leave it to the end user to carry all of the investment. Innovative companies are taking a step forward, there are a lot of solutions and business models to tackle this exciting new problem however, to enable this, we need to start with the basics which is to integrate, connect and control DERs with an overarching software like Gridshare.
