Telling someone the acne, vaginal bleeding, palpitations, brain fog is from menopause can be a source of relief and could avoid money, time, stress.” Our doulas can help patients put their care plan into action, provide symptom-specific educational content, share expert-vetted recommendations (products, supplements, etc), help with lifestyle changes, and validate that YES, what you’re feeling IS normal. “If I am a teacher and I am having a hot flash in a class of 36 [students]…, what do I do if I am in the middle of engaging young minds?” ^^This is the reality for many teachers across the U.S. And with temps going up, these final weeks of school can be especially challenging. The profession is largely dominated by women, and the average age is 43. And yet, the word menopause is rarely mentioned. And support? Scarce or non-existent. Their providers are often under-informed*, and getting appointments is hard enough without a school schedule. So teachers are left with no other choice but to struggle with symptoms, often reducing their hours to part-time or retiring earlier than planned – all at a time when principal and teacher turnover is *already* at an all-time high. “These are experienced teachers who have a great deal of value when it comes to the role model that they offer younger staff, and the support they very often offer the whole school. It’s quite a significant loss.” — Helen Clare, menopause educator for schools in England This is, simply put, unacceptable. Thank you to Denisa R.
