Center for Reproductive Rights
Law Practice
The Center for Reproductive Rights uses the power of law to advance reproductive rights as fundamental human rights.
About us
For over 25 years, the Center for Reproductive Rights has used the law to advance reproductive freedom as a fundamental human right that all governments are legally obligated to protect, respect, and fulfill. Since 1992, our attorneys have boldly used legal and human rights tools to create this world. We are the only global legal advocacy organization dedicated to reproductive rights, with expertise in both U.S. constitutional and international human rights law. Our groundbreaking cases before national courts, United Nations committees, and regional human rights bodies have expanded access to reproductive healthcare, including birth control, safe abortion, prenatal and obstetric care, and unbiased information. We influence the law outside the courtroom as well, documenting abuses, working with policymakers to promote progressive measures, and fostering legal scholarship and teaching on reproductive health and human rights. We are legal innovators seeking to fundamentally transform the landscape of reproductive health and rights worldwide, and have already strengthened laws and policies in more than 50 countries. Help us realize every woman's right to reproductive health and autonomy.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: There is nothing “pro-life” about abortion bans. As The Intercept reports, a recent study out of Tulane University found that in states with multiple abortion restrictions, the rate of intimate partner homicides against women and girls ages 10 to 44 rose by a chilling 3.4% for each restriction enforced. Another study they cited found that suicide rates have increased among reproductive-age women, with new reproductive restrictions associated with a 5.81% higher annual suicide rate compared to pre-enforcement years. Research like this underscores the dangerous and potentially deadly consequences of abortion bans and it SHOULD NOT be ignored. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eAAC2ZPe

"Having an abortion that day saved my life." That's what Nicole Miller, a new witness in our case against Idaho's abortion ban, said about being airlifted out of her state for life-saving care after a doctor said he wasn’t willing to risk his 20-year career to help her. Nicole's story highlights the horrific realities of extreme abortion bans: People being traumatically airlifted to safety during the worst moments of their lives and providers having to weigh the threat of criminal penalties and jail time while their patients suffer. Thank you, Nicole, for sharing your harrowing story with us and with the world. You deserved better. We all do.

“I want people to know that this can happen to anyone, it can happen to your sister, your wife or your daughter,” said Nicole Miller. “I never expected this to happen to me.”
