In Our Own Voice (IOOV) and the National Partnership for Women & Families (NPWF) recently released an issue brief detailing how the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has impeded access to abortion, disrupted economic futures and put the health and lives of millions of Americans at risk. Black women in particular have borne the brunt - the majority of Black women of reproductive age in the United States – 57% – live in states that have banned or are likely to ban abortion. Learn more from IOOV President and CEO Regina Davis Moss and NPWF President Jocelyn Frye about the findings from the brief and ways that policymakers can strengthen access to and coverage of abortion in order to provide dignified and safe pregnancy and birth outcomes, equitable health care, and the social, economic, political, and cultural supports needed for Black people and families to thrive.

This week, Intersections of Our Lives - a women of color-led RJ collaborative - submitted a statement for the record for a U.S. Senate Budget Committee Hearing on "No Rights to Speak of: The Economic Harms of Restricting Reproductive Freedom." In a joint statement, National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF)'s Executive Director Sung Yeon Choimorrow, In Our Own Voice: National Black Women's Reproductive Justice Agenda's President & CEO Regina Davis Moss, PhD, MPH, MCHES, and National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice's Executive Director Lupe M. R. underscored the impact abortion restrictions have on women and communities of color. Barriers to reproductive health care perpetuate economic insecurity, limit educational and career opportunities, increase health care costs, and perpetuate cycles of poverty and inequality. Reproductive healthcare and services is a fundamental aspect of healthcare. This survey from Kaiser Family Foundation shows that 10% of employees don’t cover legal abortion care at all, and 18% said it’s covered only in limited circumstances. At In Our Own Voice, we are committed to practicing what we preach. That’s why we cover the full spectrum of healthcare for our employees, including reproductive and abortion services. Why? Because they deserve it Read more about the study here: https://lnkd.in/gF25u7q6
