This book is what i was looking for, ages now, especially after i watched The Invasion with Nicole Kidman.
Even with 502 pages i thought it would be overwhelming but in fact i finished it so fast and honestly it's literally one of the best books I've seen my entire life! A parasite developed by a company to help humans get well from mild to serious illnesses and diseases that after years side effects take part. It follows Sally, the protagonist, after she had a car accident and fell into a coma, waking up after they planted this parasite to help her but she became a new person with no memories from her past. She and her boyfriend are trying to find answers of what's going on with the side effects and the ending just gave me chills...
The author also knows what she's doing but it makes sense. If I'm not mistaken she has attended seminars about Parasitology and classes so the book is brilliant written. Not just general information or overwhelming scientific terminologies and explanations that would make the reader to be confused or anything like that.
This is a book about a 0ost-Apocalyptic/Dystopian world we could be in. Amazing and i can't wait to read the next of the trilogy!!!...more

The characters had a good development, some will stay in your mind for a long time and it had some good action scenes when it comes to fights.
Only con (and the reason why i rated it with a star less) is the continuous description of the same thing every now and then. How the protagonist and his fellow coops had to work to keep safe the streets and get the income from store owners for their protection. I believe it could be some pages less without adding the same (almost routine) but its not a big deal, I'm sure you'll love reading this novel!!!...more

I enjoyed the fur-ball we see on the cover, Willis, who likes to mimic other people's voices and conversations so you can imagine how funny that could be but also crucial to the story that was unfolding.

The ending, the last page specifically, is like a message to all of us to step away from routine, explore things and follow interesting ways and paths were afraid of. Brilliant!!!...more

The protagonist, Jacob, is dealing with some issues from a "time machine". A machine that takes the person back in the time somewhere in the 20th Century of his desire to witness the moment of his choice. This works as an entertainment because all of the humans beings got a thing that keeps them immortal so it would be boring living hundred of years doing nothing.
This story questions if the addictions we have nowadays are really worth it and some other subjects the reader might find interesting.
The author's description of historical events, environment back in the time, dialogues and attitudes is very well written and we can see the effort he took to either research or remember how people would acted and say back in the day.
I'd prefer it would be less in length because it had some details that didn't keep my interest at all, though....more

And the ending was bittersweet too. Highly recommended!!!...more

The idea of an alternative future in the North America after a catastrophic event was very well written (around the age of 4,000 so like 2k years from now). The character discovers a location and comes up with his own thoughts of what people used to be and do back in the time. Even when he discovers a sign of McDonald's he believes this belonged to a kind of a religious group. So funny ...more

Different characters, strong protagonists especially the female reporter and of course it describes to detail the world before the Second Martian War, durin the War and the Aftermath. They even land in different countries on the last pages and gives a different narrative than focusing on England only.
Now about the Cons i think these ones come to personal preference but the reader might find some paragraphs or Chapters (keep in mind it has in total 98 Chapters but change every 3-4 pages) overwhelming with details or descriptions or events that even if you skip them you won't miss anything. And another issue is the continued failure of the Mankind trying to defeat the alien Tripods without any effect. I get it they are more advanced at that period of time, 20th Century, than Humanity but still there should be a better way to handle their advance in this war.
In general its a MUST READ if you have finished the first book to end the storyline....more

The story shows a team of scientists and explorers in future. They can have SecUnits. Half humans, half bots ( if i got it right ). The team that landed on a planet has one as security mostly. But this one went rogue. Not to do any bad, just hacked the system to be free, passing it's time by watching entertaiment shows, helping them pretending it's under control etc. Theres one more team in this planet and they lost contact with each other ( they are from another company ). When they go there to take a look things happen. Not good for them and they have to escape and find out what was going on. I loved the plot so much !
It's on the first person and in past, as the SecUnit talks. It has a sweet and bitter and nostalgic end. The only part i didn't like was that there was not much description of the terrain at the planet. And i love looking for planets, their habbitat, terrain etc. I wish it could give more details but i won't give a star less because of it. I will definetely read the continue and i heard there will be a last one, full length novel. So excited !!!...more
