But in a completely monitored and subjugated society, thinking can cost your life. One single mistake and Guy may find himself on the other side of the flamethrower...
A very short novel, with a lot of feel of Orwell's 1984. A novel that emphasizes the value of written legacy, books, and free will. An interesting read, with lots of moments and quotations to remember, but somewhat far from the dazzling 1984 experience.
What I couldn't grasp was Bradbury's confusing way to describe things, not because of the vocabulary, but because of the phrasing. Several of them seemed incomprehensible, or incoherent. Maybe I just got one of those weird faulty electronic copies. Or maybe this was just a book that I may have been able to enjoy much more reading it in spanish. Maybe. Might try Martian Chronicles someday, in spanish.
**** Both movies fell kinda flat. Interesting, but not really enjoyable, and specially not 2018. 1966 - Definitely the most faithful to the book. Some important changes to the original plot, but welcomed ones. Unremarkable acting, at best. Decent effects, considering. Not necessarily a good film, but it does have some redeeming qualities. 2018 - It would be generous if said it has any redeeming qualities. Terribly unfaithful to the book. Besides the names, setting and *some* basic plot, everything else was changed. And not in a good way. Really nice effects though.

Guy Montag, uno de estos bomberos incendiarios, tras una serie de eventos empieza a despertar de su largo y ciego adoctrinamiento. Para su horror, encuentra una identidad y pensamiento propio. Pero en una sociedad completamente vigilada y subyugada, pensar puede costar la vida. Un simple error y Guy podría encontrarse del otro lado del lanzallamas...
Una novela muy corta, con mucho feel de 1984 de Orwell. Una novela que resalta el valor de los libros, el legado de la palabra, y del pensamiento libre. Una lectura interesante, con varias citas y momentos para el recuerdo, pero algo lejos de la genial experiencia que fue leer 1984.
Lo que no pude digerir es la forma enrevesada que tiene Bradbury para describir las cosas. Reiteradas frases me resultaron incoherentes o irrelevantes. Tal vez me topé con una de esas raras malas copias digitales. O quizás éste sea uno de esos libros que tal vez hubiera podido disfrutar mucho más leyéndolo en español. Tal vez. Intentaré con Crónicas Marcianas algún día, en español.
**** Ambas peliculas me cayeron sosas. Interesantes, pero no muy disfrutables, especialmente no 2018. 1966 - Definitivamente la más fiel al libro. Algunos cambios importantes a la trama original, pero bien recibidos. Actuación regular, como mucho. Efectos decentes, considerando. No necesariamente una buena película, pero tiene algunas buenas cualidades. 2018 - Sería generoso decir que tiene alguna buena cualidad. Terriblemente infiel al espíritu del libro. Aparte de los nombres, contexto y *algo* de la trama original, todo fue cambiado. Y no de una buena manera. Muy buenos efectos, eso sí.

Was this ‘book’ really necessary? I’m not sure. Many say everything here was slightly implied in the ending of Allegiant. I didn’t see it.
Part of me is grateful because this indeed mended a part of me that was left severely damaged after the ending of Allegiant. Another part of me is repulsed by the fact that I hear this little addition was offered only exclusively for those who preordered the first book of Roth’s new series ‘Carve the Mark’, with the intent to boost sales. What a dick move.
Anyway. It’s a total wild card, it may even deepen the wound. Read at own risk.

Otra parte de mí está asqueada por el hecho que escuché que esta pequeña adición fue ofrecida sólo exclusivamente para aquellos que pre compraban el primer libro de la nueva serie de Roth ‘Carve the Mark’, con la intención de incrementar las ventas. By far the better of all the entries. In this last installment we pretty much get to see everything that transpires within the first book of Divergent; from the beginning of the training, until the run away from Dauntless, but through the eyes of Four. How Tris came into his life, (view spoiler)[ the training, the fear scenarios, their closeness (hide spoiler)], and how they saved each other.
Aw! It was so incredibly moving to see Tris again, especially after the ending of Allegiant!

Todo cambia cuando entra una nueva iniciada con la camada del nuevo año; una estirada de Abnegación, llamada Beatrice Prior, o “Tris”.
Por lejos la mejor de todas las partes. En esta última entrega podemos ver prácticamente todo lo que sucede en el primer libro de Divergente; desde el inicio del entrenamiento, hasta la huida de Osadía, pero a través de los ojos de Cuatro. Cómo Tris llegó a su vida, (view spoiler)[ el entrenamiento, los escenarios de los miedos, su cercanía (hide spoiler)] y cómo se salvaron mutuamente.
¡Ay! Fue increíblemente conmovedor volver a ver a Tris, ¡especialmente después del final de Leal!

This was just as good as the second entry, entertaining enough and action packed. In this installment we start to glimpse the conspiracy between Max, the leader of Dauntless, and Jeanine, the leader of Erudite; and also the shadow influences of Evelyn, as leader of the Factionless. And between them all, Four not wanting to be subjected to anyone, and trying to find his own way.

Y entre todos ellos, Cuatro no queriendo verse sometido a nadie, y tratando de encontrar su propio camino.

After taking his Aptitude Test, he’s expected to pick a faction in the upcoming Choosing Day Ceremony; a definitive Faction, in which he will have to live in, for the rest of his life.
Meh, this was ok I guess. Even though I loved Divergent (one of my favorites series of all time), can’t say I loved this one. Maybe it was too short, maybe it just doesn’t measure up to the full novels, or maybe this little chapter shouldn’t be considered as a unit but as a whole with the rest, to judge it fairly.
Regardless, it was very interesting knowing the beginnings of Four, and why he chose his Faction, and his tattoo. It was great getting to know Amar, his friend and instructor, and seeing Eric too I guess, the bastard. Not to mention learning in full detail the when, how and why he got his name, Four.

Después de realizar su Prueba de Aptitud, se espera que elija una facción en la próxima Ceremonia del Día de la Elección; una Facción definitiva, en la cual tendrá que vivir, por el resto de su vida.
Meh, esto estuvo bien, supongo. Aunque amé Divergente (una de mis series favoritas de todos los tiempos), no puedo decir que me amé esto. Tal vez fue demasiado corto, tal vez simplemente no está a la altura de las novelas enteras, o tal vez este pequeño capítulo no debería considerarse como una unidad sino como un todo con el resto, para juzgarlo con justicia.
De todos modos, fue muy interesante conocer los inicios de Cuatro, y por qué eligió su Facción, y su tatuaje. Fue genial conocer a Amar, su instructor y amigo, y ver también a Eric supongo, el muy bastardo. Y ni hablar de conocer con total detalle el cuándo, cómo y por qué obtuvo su nombre, Cuatro.

The 4-part prequel story of Tobias Eaton, better known as Four; the young, brave and nearly fearless instructor from Dauntless. From the beginnings in Abnegation with his father Marcus, until his departure; the initiation, training and formation in the Dauntless faction along with Eric; the uncovering of the secret dealings with Jeanine and Erudite, and Evelyn and the Factionless; his rising and becoming of instructor, and his meeting with Beatrice Prior, the new recruit from Abnegation.
Overall this was a nice, engaging and decently entertaining little prequel. A rocky start vastly compensated by a solid middle and a fantastic final installment. It was very interesting to get to know in full detail Four’s journey through his pov; and so amazing to see Tris again, however briefly, bringing all those feelings that made Divergent so great.
I don’t think the four little chapters work at all as standalones, but as a novella and a whole, I think it’s more than worth the time. Forever Tris & Four <3

La historia precuela en 4 partes de Tobías Eaton, mejor conocido como Cuatro; el joven, valiente y casi totalmente intrépido instructor de Osadía. Desde los inicios en Abnegación con su padre Marcus, hasta su partida; la iniciación, entrenamiento y formación en la facción de Osadía junto a Eric; el descubrimiento de los secretos tratos de Jeanine y Erudición, y Evelyn y los Sin Facción; su ascenso y conversión en instructor, y su encuentro con Beatrice Prior, la nueva recluta de Abnegación.
Dentro de todo esta fue una linda, atrapante y bastante entretenida pequeña precuela. Un comienzo débil ampliamente compensado por una sólida media parte y una fantástica entrega final. Fue muy interesante conocer en gran detalle el viaje de Cuatro a través de su punto de vista; e increíble volver ver a Tris nuevamente, aunque brevemente, trayendo todos esos sentimientos que hicieron tan genial a Divergente.
No creo que estos cuatro pequeños capítulos funcionen en absoluto de forma independiente, pero en su conjunto y como novela corta, creo que más que valen la pena el tiempo. Por siempre Tris y Cuatro <3

Genetically altered from birth, each person learns to live under certain conditionings. And they are perfectly happy, within those parameters and capacities. But when a variable goes wrong, stability becomes hard to achieve. In this perfect world, Bernard Max tries to find a place in a society he does not feel he belongs, Lenina Crowne tries to overcome feelings she should not have, and John Savage struggles with his desire... to understand.
Interesting from time to time, but sometimes, not so much. Mixed feelings. Overall an enjoyable read. An all-time classic, and a pillar of dystopian fiction.
Still remaining, two movies based on the book (1980 and 1998).

Felicidad Distópica.
En un futuro utópico distante, la sociedad alcanza su máximo ideal. Tecnología avanzada, sobreabundancia ilimitada, desaparición de la pobreza, fin de la violencia. Bienestar al alcance de una píldora. Todos son felices. Todos tienen lo que quieren, cuando quieren, cuanto quieren. Todos pertenecen a todos. "Comunidad, Identidad, Estabilidad" es el lema de la sociedad.
Alterados genéticamente desde nacimiento, cada persona aprende a vivir bajo ciertos condicionamientos. Y son perfectamente felices, dentro de esos parámetros y capacidades. Pero cuando una variable sale mal, la estabilidad se vuelve difícil de alcanzar. En este mundo perfecto, Bernard Marx trata de encontrar su lugar en un mundo al cual siente no pertenecer, Lenina Crowne por sobrellevar sentimientos que no debería tener, y John Savage lucha por su deseo de... entender.
Interesante de a ratos, a veces no tanto. Sentimientos cruzados. Dentro de todo una lectura pasable. Clásico de clásicos y un pilar de la distopía.
Quedan pendientes ver las dos películas basadas en el libro (1980 y 1998).

Based on the popular Bioshock game franchise (one of my all-time favorites), a novel that serves as a prequel to Bioshock 1 and 2. The story behind the foundation of Rapture, the hidden city under the seas. Very interesting to know the background story of Andrew Ryan and the beginnings of his mythical Rapture.
Entertaining, revealing, good enough to be worth the time, although not specially remarkable.

Guerra mundial, bombas nucleares, dictaduras, destrucción, pobreza masiva asolando la segunda mitad siglo XX. Un hombre con una visión. Una ciudad con plena libertad y completa autonomía, libre de los peligros, vicios, restricciones y las dudosas moralidades del mundo internacional. Una ciudad protegida y aislada, para que la humanidad pueda volver a empezar libremente.
Una ciudad… bajo el mar.
Que podría malir sal?
La historia de una utopía que se transforma lentamente en la peor de las pesadillas imaginables.
Basada en la popular franquicia Bioshock (una de mis favoritas de todos los tiempos), una novela que funciona como precuela de Bioshock 1 y 2. La historia detrás de la fundación de Rapture, la ciudad oculta bajo los mares. Muy interesante para conocer la historia detrás de Andrew Ryan y los comienzos de su mítica Rapture.
Entretenida, reveladora, suficientemente buena para haber valido el tiempo, pero no especialmente destacable.

Claire lives within the safety of the Community, and like everyone, without any kind of emotions, or pain. At the t Every story has to end sometime.
Claire lives within the safety of the Community, and like everyone, without any kind of emotions, or pain. At the tender age of fourteen she is assigned the life role of Birth Mother, and by artificial insemination delivers a beautiful baby boy. When because birth complications she’s reassigned a new role at the Fish Hatchery, and volunteers at the Nurturing Center, she slowly grows to love him. But in the Community emotions and attachment doesn’t exist; and it won’t be long before the baby is assigned to a new family, or released to ‘Elsewhere’ if the doesn’t meet the genetic standards.
This was an epic tale of a mother trying to find and reconnect with her lost son and an almost perfect conclusion to the series. The story divided into three parts; Before, Between and Beyond, taking place in the Past, Present and Future and connecting with almost every single timeline started in the previous books.
Three seemingly unconnected stories and worlds merge beautifully in this fourth installment. Sadly I can’t go into specifics without terribly spoiling much of the book and series content, so I’m just going to say that this one was SO worth it. Loved how this fourth and final novel also started like yet another seemingly unconnected story and how, as the story progressed, slowly weaved and blended every single character and timeline started in the previous books into one single unified world. It was a wowing emotional rollercoaster too, excruciatingly painful sometimes and lovingly uplifting the next. The ending a marvelous tearful conclusion that did not provide all the answers, but yes more than enough to feel satisfied and put a happy closure to it.

Claire vive dentro de la seguridad de la Comunidad, y cómo todos, sin ningún tipo de emoción, o dolor. A la tierna edad de catorce es designada en su rol de vida como Madre Partera, y por inseminación artificial entrega un hermoso bebé varón. Cuando a causa de complicaciones de parto es reasignada a un nuevo rol en la Factoría de Pescados, y como voluntaria en el Centro de Nutrición, lentamente empieza a amarlo. Pero en la Comunidad las emociones y el apego no existe; y no será largo tiempo hasta que el bebé sea asignado a su nueva familia, o liberado a ‘Otro Lado’ si no llega a cumplir con los estándares genéticos.
Esta fue una épica historia de una madre tratando de hallar y reconectar con su bebé perdido y una casi perfecta conclusión a la serie. La historia se divide en tres partes; Antes, Entre Medio y Más Allá, tomando lugar en el Pasado, Presente y Futuro y conectando casi todas las líneas temporales empezadas en los anteriores libros.
Tres aparentemente inconexas historias y mundos se fusionan hermosamente en esta cuarta entrega. Lamentablemente no puedo entrar en específicos sin arruinar terriblemente mucho del contenido del libro y la serie, así que sólo voy a decir que esta lo valió ENORMEMENTE. Amé cómo esta cuarta y última novela también empieza como otra aparentemente inconexa historia y cómo, mientras la historia progresa, lentamente va tejiendo y uniendo cada personaje y trama empezada en los libros anteriores en un único mundo unificado. Fue un asombroso viaje emocional también, extremadamente dolorosa a veces y amorosamente elevadora al siguiente. El final una maravillosa y lacrimosa conclusión que no proveyó todas las respuestas, pero sí más que suficiente para sentirme satisfecho y felizmente darle cierre.

Matty and the Seer live in the Village, once a happy and prosperous place, but lately a sinister influence seems to be affecting the community, tainting its neighbors, and the surrounding Forest. It all coincides with the arrival of the Trademaster, a mysterious figure who sales precious artifacts in exchange of the most unusual things…
Another seemingly standalone story yet in many ways connected to The Giver universe. Sadly this installment was the weakest in the series, and I truly regret reading it. It’s not necessarily a bad story, it connects #1 and #2, provides some cameos and answers, and closes some timelines while leaving other ones open ended. However, for me it was for the most part boring, somber and tragic for no good reason. I can usually find some beauty in a good sad story, but I could find next to none in this one. Also bothers me that in the long run this novel doesn’t bring for me any important significance to the progression of the series, (view spoiler)[ other than heartbreak for Matty. (hide spoiler)]
Ultimately I wish I had never read it, and it’s my sincere desire to warn others so to be spared the pain and disappointment. Given a second chance, I would skip it.

Todo coincide con la llegada del Mercader, una misteriosa figura que vende preciosos artículos en cambio de las cosas más inusuales…
Otra historia aparentemente solitaria que sin embargo está conectada en varias formas con el universo del Dador. Lamentablemente esta entrega fue la más floja de la serie, y verdaderamente me arrepiento de leerla. No es necesariamente una mala historia, conecta #1 y #2, provee cameos y algunas respuestas, y cierra algunas líneas temporales mientras deja otras abiertas. Sin embargo, para mí en su mayor parte resultó aburrida, sombría y trágica sin buena razón. Usualmente puedo hallar cierta belleza en una buena historia triste, pero pude encontrar poco y nada en esta. This book was an excellent surprise! A surprise because I was expecting a direct sequel to the events of #1 but instead got a completely different standalone story, and a surprise because I enjoyed it even more than the first. A somewhat short novel, yet still very powerful. In a way it could be said this was maybe too simplistic and innocent, not that that made it at all any less enjoyable. Little Matt and his doggie Branch were the best of the book by far, two secondary characters endearing and funny to no end, the kind that make you smile and laugh every time they appear. Kira, Thomas and Jamison also good. And the plot and progression engaging enough. A book I keep in my memory as the best or second best in the series. Recommendable.

¡Este libro fue una excelente sorpresa! Una sorpresa porque esperaba una secuela directa a los eventos de #1 pero recibí en su lugar una historia solitaria completamente diferente, y una sorpresa porque la disfruté incluso más que la primera. Una novela algo corte, pero aun así muy poderosa. En cierta forma podría decirse que es tal vez demasiado simplona e inocente, no que eso la haya hecho en absoluto menos disfrutable. El pequeño Mat y su perrito Palo fueron lo mejor del libro por lejos, dos personajes secundarios entrañables y graciosos al extremo, de ese tipo que te hacen sonreír y reír cada vez que aparecen. Kira, Thomas y Jamison también buenos. Y la trama y progresión suficientemente atrapante. Un libro que guardo en la memoria como el mejor o segundo mejor de la serie. Recomendable.

The answers to the mystery of divergency both satisfying and unfulfilling. Happy for the final resolution between the factions, and devastated because of the events in the Bureau. Tris and Four as always fighting the good fight and giving all they got to defend those they love, literally. The ending one of the most painful things I’ve ever read. (Seriously Roth WTF!)
An unforgettable ending to one of my most beloved YA series, alongside Percy Jackson and Hunger Games. I remain, by far, with that perfect first book, followed by the second, and lastly this third one, that I almost regret reading. Anyone who has read it perfectly knows why.
*** Allegiant Part 1 (2016) is a visually stunning adaptation, yet sadly the weakest of all the movies and a major disappointment. The screenplay felt convoluted, the pacing chopped and the acting subpart. Other than the visuals, there’s not much I can rescue, not even by Woodley or James. It’s no surprise that because of the unfavorable reception this was the last film and Part 2 never happened. Part of me wishes for that second movie, but I’m also grateful that I never got to watch it. That ending is not something I wish to relive twice.

Las respuestas al misterio de la divergencia a su vez satisfactorias y carentes. Feliz por la resolución final entre las facciones, y devastado por los eventos en la Oficina. Tris y Cuatro como siempre luchando la buena pelea y dando todo de ellos para defender aquellos que aman, literalmente. El final una de las cosas más dolorosas que leí jamás. (En serio Roth, ¡qué demonios!)
Un inolvidable final para una de mis más amadas series de lo Joven Adulto, junto con Percy Jackson y Juegos del Hambre. Me quedo, por mucho, con ese perfecto primer libro, seguido por el segundo, y por último este tercero, que casi me arrepiento de haber leído. Cualquiera que lo haya leído sabe perfectamente por qué.
*** Leal Parte 1 (2016) es una visualmente impactante adaptación, aunque lamentablemente la más floja de todas las películas y una terrible decepción. El guion se sintió artificial, el ritmo cortado y la actuación mediocre. Más allá de las visuales, no puedo rescatar mucho, ni siquiera de Woodley o James. No es de sorprenderse que por la desfavorable recepción este fue el último filme y la Parte 2 nunca llegó. Una parte de mi desea esa segunda película, pero también estoy agradecido que nunca llegué a verla. Ese final no es algo que quisiera revivir dos veces.

This was an excellent sequel, although not as good as the that perfect first Divergent. LOVED getting to know the Amity faction in detail; how their society worked, the joint decision making process, their self-sufficiency, and how they were so mellow man! And that’s why I’ll always chose Amity over any other faction. My hometown. I have mixed feelings regarding Johanna though, and also don’t remember Evelyn fondly at all. Peter still a triple crossing bastard, (view spoiler)[ and not saddened at all to see Eric go, or Jeanine. (hide spoiler)]
Several moments to remember by. (view spoiler)[ the assault on Amity, the interrogation at Candor, and the storming of Erudite. (hide spoiler)] A lot of action, plot twists, heartbreak, heart melt, and a mind-blowing ending. A good and solid sequel in every sense. Recommendable.
*** Insurgent (2015) is an ok adaptation that sadly doesn’t make any justice to the book. The scenography is gorgeous, the actions scenes on point, great effects, decent screenplay, faithful to the book; yet for everything done right on the whole it amounted to average at best. I’m not exactly sure what went wrong. The first movie was good, not great but good; this second one was barely acceptable. Good enough to watch, sure, just don’t expect much.

Abnegación destruida, Erudición y Osadía peleando entre sí y contra todos los demás, Cordialidad y Verdad involucradas en una guerra que nunca pidieron; y desde las sombras, los emergentes Abandonados, aquellos sin facción. Tris, la fugitiva Divergente, junto a Cuatro y un puñado de refugiados, tratando de sobrevivir en un mundo empeñado en autodestruirse completamente.
Esta fue una excelente secuela, aunque no tan buena como fue ese primer perfecto Divergente. . AME conocer la facción de Cordialidad en detalle; cómo funciona su sociedad, el proceso de toma de decisiones en conjunto, la autosuficiencia, ¡y cómo eran de pacíficos! Y es por eso que siempre elegiré Cordialidad por sobre cualquier otra facción. Es mi hogar. Aunque tengo sentimientos mezclados con respecto a Johanna, y tampoco guardo cariño por Evelyn. District 12 has been erased from the map; and Katniss, the rebel reincarnation of the mockingjay, will have to prove her worth one final time. Not for herself or her forbidden love, nor her friends or family, but for all the inhabitants of Panem, now in open revolt against the tyrannical power of the Capitol. A revolution arises from the ashes of the destroyed District 13, and Katniss is the leading protagonist, and a pawn in another kind of game.
This was a fairly good conclusion to one of the greatest dystopian series of all time; decently entertaining and action packed as all the previous ones, yet not the best of the series, at least imo. I did enjoy it enough, but sadly it felt overwhelmingly heavy on the psychological side. Feeling Katniss constantly despair in first person for almost half the book was far more disheartening self-inflicted drama than I cared to endure. Not that she hadn’t enough reason to, but it was just way too much. Many interesting twists and memorable events, like the siege of The Nut, the rescue of the victors, (view spoiler)[ Peeta <\3 (hide spoiler)] and the assault on the Capitol (view spoiler)[ Finnick <\3 (hide spoiler)]. A satisfyingly surprising ending and a perfectly heartfelt epilogue (view spoiler)[ Team Peeta for the win! (hide spoiler)] Overall good, maybe even very good, but definitely not a favorite.
** The movies (2014-5) were good adaptations. Were two films really necessary? My heart says no, yet the rational part in me reluctantly has to admit so many developments and plot twists would’ve been far too much to pack in just one release, making it extremely convoluted and impossibly fast paced; so I think two releases were more than justified, despite the obvious money grab. Not that I care for any of them anyway; I’ve watched the previous films more times than I can recount, but these two last movies only once or twice, and I can live without ever watching them again. Not that I think they are actually bad at all, perfectly good acting, admirable special effects and overall great artistic value; I just don’t care about it. Barely recommendable, at least for completionism sake.

** Las películas (2014-5) fueron buenas adaptaciones. ¿Eran dos filmes realmente necesarios? Mi corazón me dice que no, pero mi parte racional reticentemente debe admitir que tantos acontecimientos y vueltas de trama hubieran sido demasiado difícil de empacar en tan sólo una sola entrega, haciéndolo extremadamente compleja e imposiblemente rápida en ritmo; así que creo que dos entregas estuvieron más que bien justificadas, a pesar del obvio intento de agarrar más dinero. No que me interesen ambas en realidad; miré los anteriores filmes más veces de las que puedo recontar, pero estas dos últimas películas solo una o dos veces, y puedo vivir sin verlas de nuevo. Aunque no porque crea que son malas en absoluto, perfectamente decente actuación, admirables efectos especiales y dentro de todo con gran valor artístico; la verdad es que simplemente no me interesan. Apenas recomendables, al menos para completar el círculo.

After barely surviving the deadly Hunger games, days in District 12 turn simple and peaceful; the life of a victor carries tranquility, fame and well-being. Yet new difficulties don’t take long to appear; being the new celebrity of Panem brings a lot of attention, and of the most dangerous kind. The challenge in the previous tournament does not go unnoticed, and the beginnings of a rebellion start to arise. Under the ever vigilant eye of the Capitol, not even the victors, the strongest among the strong, can escape its power. Katniss and Peeta will have to try to appease the social unrest, and prove their loyalty to the government; or else their loved ones, their district, and even all of Panem may burn for it.
Can you better perfection? Well, all I can say this was for me one of those few examples that plainly proves that you can. This was absolutely engrossing and unputdownable from start to finish; just as good as the first book, but multiplied by 2x, if not more. I couldn’t care less if it felt a bit like a clone, it was just so damn good! Perfectly paced and action packed. Awesomeness brought to a whole new level. The events in District 12, the tour through Panem, the visit to the Capitol, the arena; everything so equally absorbing and compelling. And so many new lovable and hateful characters added to the mix, yet everyone real, different and unique in their way. Mind blowing character development, considering the staggering amount of characters included in this book. A true work of art, and probably one of the best dystopian fiction I’ve ever read, if not the best period. Highly Recommendable.

*** The movie (2013) is another masterful adaptation; highly enjoyable and rewatch worthy as much as the book. The film again bringing the world and characters alive in the most unforgettable way. Some minor things left out, but nothing too relevant to matter or mention, except maybe a few scenes from the book between Katniss and Peeta which I thought were pretty emotional and meaningful. Lawrence and Hutcherson as wonderful as before, yet also many more remarkable performances by a superb supporting cast; my favorites being Jena Malone and Sam Claflin, as Johanna and Finnick, respectively. Although they were not the only ones that captured my heart. Another incredible almost perfect adaptation which I never get tired of rewatching whenever I happen to catch it on TV. Extremely Recommendable.

Después de apenas sobrevivir los mortales Juegos del Hambre, los días en el Distrito 12 se vuelven simples y apacibles; la vida de una vencedora conlleva tranquilidad, fama y bienestar. Pero nuevas dificultades no tardan en aparecer; ser la nueva celebridad de Panem atrae mucha atención, y de la más peligrosa. En desafío del torneo anterior no pasa desapercibido, y los principios de una rebelión empiezan a surgir. Bajo el siempre ojo vigilante del Capitolio, ni siquiera los vencedores, los más fuertes entre los más fuertes, pueden escapar de su poder. Katniss y Peeta deberán tratar de apaciguar la agitación social, y probar su lealtad al gobierno; de no conseguirlo, la vida de sus seres queridos, de su distrito, y tal vez la de todo Panem ardan por ello.
¿Se puedes mejorar la perfección? Bueno, sólo puedo decir que para mí este fue uno de esos pocos ejemplos de que lisa y llanamente prueban que sí, se puede. Esto fue absolutamente atrapante e imposible de dejar de leer de principio a fin; tan bueno como el primer libro, pero multiplicado por dos, sino más. No me puede importar menos si se sintió un poco como un clon, ¡esto fue terriblemente bueno! Perfecto en su ritmo y cargado de acción. Pura genialidad llevado a un nuevo nivel. Los eventos del Distrito 12, el viaje a través de Panem, la visita al Capitolio, la arena; todo igualmente absorvente y cautivador. Y tantos nuevos entrañables y odiosos personajes añadidos al conjunto, pero todos reales, diferentes y únicos a su manera. Inigualable desarrollo de personajes, considerando la desorbitante cantidad de personajes incluidos en este libro. Una verdadera obra de arte, y probablemente una de las mejores ficciones distópicas que alguna vez leí, sino es que la mejor punto. Altamente Recomendable.

The position holds great status and responsibility, but also a terrible burden. The ‘perfect society’ carries a hefty price, and secrets, so many secrets…
This was one of my first books and series, along with Percy, Divergent and Hunger, that sparked my passion for YA and everything dystopian. It’s been more than a decade and the stirrings still strong with this one. How can I ever forget Jonas and Fiona, the tiny helpless Gabriel, the glimpses of colour, the Stirrings, the memories, and the pains of the world, (view spoiler)[ or the terrible secrets of the Nurturer, the Caretaker and Elsewhere, (hide spoiler)] among many other things.
One of best and highly regarded works of dystopian fiction, and very justly lauded. An enjoyable and thought provoking novel that gives you pause, and leaves you wanting for more, especially regarding answers. The beginning and middle were great, and the revelations devastating. The ending was kind of ambiguous, unsatisfactory, and open ended; but it’s resolved by the end of the series, sort of. A story that truly makes you think. Emotions brings out the best in people, and more often too, the worst. Fairly Recommendable. And a must if you enjoy anything dystopian.
*** The movie (2014) is an ok adaptation I suppose. Well put together and reasonably faithful to the original work. However, sadly, although all the effort and main ingredients were clearly there, I believe the film doesn’t nearly make any justice to the book. Brenton Thwaites and Odeya Rush were unremarkable at best, and the whole feeling of the movie plainly lackluster and barely memorable. What I really enjoyed most about it was the artistic and beautiful scenography which was excellently done, and the aesthetic feel of it. But ultimately I think what really saves the movie and makes it worth it at all is Jeff Bridges, he shines whenever he’s on, as The Dude often does in any film he’s in.

Este fue uno de mis primeros libros y series, junto con Percy, Divergente y Juegos del Hambre, que encendió mi pasión por lo Joven Adulto y todo lo distópico. Ha pasado más de una década y los ardores todavía fuertes con esta novela. ¿Cómo podría alguna vez olvidar Jonás y Fiona, el pequeño e indefenso Gabriel, los destellos de color, los Ardores, las memorias y los dolores del mundo, (view spoiler)[ o los terribles secretos de los Cuidadores, Enfermeros, y el Otro Lugar (hide spoiler)] entre tantas cosas.
Una de las mejores y más altamente aclamadas obras de ficción distópica, y más que justamente laureada. Una disfrutable y provocadora novela que te produce un quiebre, y te deja deseando más, especialmente con respecto a respuestas. La presentación y desarrollo fueron geniales, y las revelaciones devastadoras. El final fue algo ambiguo, insatisfactorio y abierto; pero es resuelto al final de la serie, más o menos. Una historia que verdaderamente te hace pensar. Las emociones despiertan lo mejor en las personas, y muy a menudo también, lo peor. Bastante Recomendable. Y un deber si disfrutás de todo lo distópico.
*** El Dador (2014) es una adaptación aceptable supongo. Bien armada y razonablemente fiel a la obra original. Sin embargo, lamentablemente, aunque todos los ingredientes principales y el esfuerzo claramente están, creo que el filme no le hace ni de cerca justicia al libro en absoluto. Brenton Thwaites y Odeya Rush fueron regular cuando mucho, y toda la sensación de la película simplemente carente y apenas memorable. Lo que más disfruté de todo fue la artística y hermosa escenografía que fue excelentemente hecha, y toda la vibra estética de ella. Pero en última instancia creo que lo que realmente salva la película y hace que valga la pena es Jeff Bridges, que realmente brilla siempre que aparece, como El Tipo con frecuencia hace en cualquier película que actúa.

LOVED IT. I love dystopian fiction and love YA, and this one was a perfect combination of both. Add to that a slow burn romance and fast paced plot full of action. Bingo. YA heaven. Loved watching Tris blossom from a shy selfless to a daring dauntless, without ever losing sight of her origins. The chemistry with Four was amazing, and the pair just make dual madness. Christina was also great. Caleb can go suck and egg. Oh yes and Peter and Eric, how could I forget those two! Yeah… f*ck ‘em.
The movie (2014) is a good adaptation, not at all great, but fairly faithful to the book. Most of the movie played real smoothly, some very great moments, capture the flag and zipline scenes among my top favorites, astoundingly beautiful scenery. Woodley plays a kickass Tris and Kravitz nails Christina, Judd ever so lovely. James as Four was ok, I guess. Will and Edward were shockingly disappointing, I remember them being kinda crucial to the book and terribly underused in the film. And as much as I love Winslet I think she didn't convince as a villain. Also the ending went a bit too far off-script for my taste and partially ruined what could’ve been a wonderful ending. A flawed film, but still very decent to watch, all things considered.

LO AME. Amo la ficción distópíca y amo lo Joven Adulto, y esto fue una perfecta combinación de ambas. Añadir a eso un romance de lento ardor y una trama de ritmo rápido lleno de acción. Bingo. Cielo joven adulto. Amé ver a Tris florecer de una tímida desinteresada a una valiente intrépida, sin nunca perder visión de sus orígenes. La química con Cuatro fue espectacular, y el par hacen locura dual. Christina también fue genial. Caleb puede irse a chupar un huevo. Ah sí y Peter y Eric, ¡cómo podría olvidarme de esos dos! Sí… que se pudran.
La película (2014) es una buena adaptación, para nada grandiosa, pero bastante fiel al libro. Casi toda la película fluye muy bien, algunos momentos muy geniales, la escena de captura la bandera y la tirolesa entre mis más favoritas, asombrosamente hermosa escenografía. Woodley hace una tremenda Tris, y Kravitz brilla como Christina, Judd siempre tan adorable. James como Cuatro estuvo bien, supongo. Will y Edward fueron chocantemente decepcionante, los recuerdo como algo crucial en el libro y terriblemente infrautilizados en la película. Y por más que amo a Winslet creo que no fue convincente como villana. El final como que se salió un poco demasiado del guión para mi gusto y parcialmente arruinó lo que podía haber sido un increíble final. Una película imperfecta, pero igualmente muy decente de ver, considerando todo.
