While the beginning of this book was sluggish, and a little clunkier and less poetic than what I'm used to from Anais, the last few chapters of Collages certainly made up for the lack. Very glad to have read it now, and to let it usher a resurgence of my passion for the written word and the "world of Kaka' tuv."...more

The ennui that nearly suffocates this narrative also works to make it comfortable and beautiful, if haunted.
Though it is much slower in some parts than others and generally comprised of more reading suggestions than plot, there are a few very pleasing (and inspiring) one-liners and as always, I enjoyed meandering alongside her life, pretending it could be my own. I love Patti's rich internal theatre and her personal church of the mundane, and honestly I found the Polaroids featured in the novel much more fascinating and aesthetically pleasing than a lot of the writing. Nevertheless, I was convinced, inspired, and into it by the end. I'm certainly glad to have read it when I did. ...more
