"Never ask for a behavioral change from any other to use as your basis of improved emotion or perspective."
It is not everyday that I come across a"Never ask for a behavioral change from any other to use as your basis of improved emotion or perspective."
It is not everyday that I come across a 'non-fiction-series,' and it is even rare that I would keep up with more than one book in such a series. But surprisingly, I made it to this third book of the Law of Attraction series, and to be honest, I really enjoyed all three books which had a very calming/ soothing effect!
"It does not matter what anyone else thinks about you. It only matters what you think. And if you are willing to let them think whatever they want to think - about anything, even about you - then you will be able to hold your thoughts steady with who-you-really-are; and you will, in time, feel good, no matter what."
If the reader is coming here after reading the first books, you probably know what to expect here, and it is exactly what you're going to get: the author is repetitively using the principles of 'Law of Attraction' using different viewpoints to drive each point home. This time, as the title says, the majority of the attention is given to different kinds of relationships we encounter during out lifetimes. If you really took your time with the first book while understanding all the basics, this will help further consolidate some of the specifics. If not, in my opinion, this could work well as a standalone, and in fact, could be a better way to start the series instead of starting from the first.
"It is not possible to create an improved future by dwelling on the problems of the past."
"You cannot 'criticize yourself to success.' "...more
"Not everyone gets the same message from the same words - or the same results from the same books"
The book two of Law of Attraction series builds "Not everyone gets the same message from the same words - or the same results from the same books"
The book two of Law of Attraction series builds up on the main concept outlined in the first book, and brings the attention towards financial well being from the same perspective. There is a lengthy, and detailed introduction chapter at first, which might feel a bit repetitive for someone coming from the first book straight-away, but it does a nice job bridging the gap between general well being outlined in the first book to and focusing the attention towards financial aspects in this one.
"We usually learn best through repetition."
"Every subject is really two subjects: what is wanted and lack of what is wanted."
Everything else I've mentioned in my first book's review remains the same, including this entire series most likely ending up as one you love or completely hate, with little middle ground. But I still think the positivity the book is attempting to establish is worth the time for any reader, even if nothing else seems tangible.

One of those books that's going to be categorized as either 'you love it or hate it'. For me, books like these are like a calming meditation. But if you didn't like books like Think and Grow Rich, or Secret, this is definitely not the book for you.
I personally liked the guidance the author had provided here in changing one's perspective/ mindset or 'point of attraction,' and using it to control your thinking patterns. At the end of the day, if for nothing else, you'd be more relaxed by the outlined exercises.

True to author's words in above quote, this book is a series of simple and straightforward reminders, including some really hilarious ones.

Ferriss's 4-Hour Work Week (4HWW) had been on my TBR for a very long time. I almost picked it up a few "It's never too late to reinvent yourself."
Ferriss's 4-Hour Work Week (4HWW) had been on my TBR for a very long time. I almost picked it up a few times, but the size of that book still keeps me away from it. But 4-Hour Body (4HB) is something that I had picked up accidentally, which also ended up next to 4HWW collecting dust for a while. But with hours of online research I've been doing on health, diet and exercise over the last two years, I decided to see how 4HB would fit into things, especially regarding some of the contradictory, confusing concepts I come across every day.
"Scientist seem to change their minds every six months. Eggs and butter will kill you, so you turn to margarine and turkey bacon. Now margarine will kill you and one egg a day is okay?"
Right off from the start, it became apparent that this is one of those 'love it or hate it' kind of books, given the principles outlined are aimed at extremes of body recompositing. Understandably, readers from a medicine/ health care background would find the practices too aggressive and unproven. So why the 4-star rating you ask? It's because these extremities help you find you own sustainable middle-ground to achieve a healthier lifestyle. You could define your own timeline, and take it a bit slowly until you reach your goals.
"Extending lifespan at the expense of quality of life makes little sense."
What I found most enlightening about this book is the way Ferriss manages to combine a number of seemingly independent components related to body recompositing by explaining how each impacts other. The collection self-experimentation results he has outlined could be a far cry from reliable medical research findings, but the logical approach and the assumptions make you realize that even those 'reliable' or 'proven' approaches are only showing part of the picture.
"A high percentage of vegans use soy as their primary source of protein. This is a bad idea. 30 grams of soy per day (about two tablespoons) for 90 days can disrupt thyroid function."
All that being said, I do believe that to get the most out of the book, the reader must have some background on diet, metabolism, and exercise. Otherwise, the contents could easily become overwhelming, or unrealistic. But depending on how open minded the reader is, even a novice could benefit from this book, given he or she is not opting for the extremes I've mentioned before and finding a SUSTAINABLE middle ground.
"If simple does the job, keep it simple."
And lastly, this entire review is based on the contents on diet and exercise, not the other one or two (namely, living forever and sex machine) somewhat beyond extreme chapters.

The Richest Man in Babylon is one of those books that has been on my TBR forever. The only reason I finally picked this up was to catchup with my non-fiction reading goals. Turns out, this is actually a fantastic read!
"No man's family can fully enjoy life unless they do have a plot of ground wherein children can play in the clean earth."
The Riches Man in Babylon is of those books like Alchemist: A simple story is being narrated with the aim of delivering a strong underlying idea (but unlike Alchemist, there's no multiple interpretations here). And that underlying concept here is the basic financial management. While it might seem too simple to warrant writing an entire book about it, I think this would be a nice eye-opener for many.
The core principle moves around each person paying himself/ herself at least one tenth of monthly earnings as a means to ensure future happiness. Again, though it might seem trivial, the author's subtle way of drawing the reader's attention towards the importance and methodologies are very effective in my opinion.
"Thy desires must be strong and definite. General desires are but weak longings."
This is a very short book. And give how short it is, I cannot help but recommend that this should be read by everyone, irrespective of the reading preferences. The little time you invest will leave you with some messages worth remembering throughout entire life!

"The shorter your sleep, the shorter your life span"
This is not a book that I had in any of my reading lists, and only picked up because the title"The shorter your sleep, the shorter your life span"
This is not a book that I had in any of my reading lists, and only picked up because the title seemed interesting while I was searching for some other books. I'm really glad that I did so, because this turned out to be one of the most incredible books I've ever read: full of enlighteningly descriptive insights on many aspects related to sleeping.
"Wakefulness is low-level brain damage, while sleep is neurological sanitation." "When sleep is abundant, minds flourish. When it is deficient, they don’t."
The books contains four main standalone parts, starting with explaining what sleep really is, then moving across how/ why should we sleep and dream, and finally on establishing proper sleeping habits. The reader will have the opportunity to learn about different stages of sleep and their functions with a staggering amount of examples and research references to better comprehend the principles outlined. And unlike most health related books, Walker's writing is excellent for readers of any prior background on the area. It made the reading experience very smooth and entertaining.
"REM sleep is what stands between rationality and insanity" "The REM-sleep dreaming brain was utterly uninterested in bland, commonsense links – the one-step-to-the-next associations. Instead, the REM-sleep brain was shortcutting the obvious links and favoring very distantly related concepts. The logic guards had left the REM-sleep dreaming brain."
It is indeed alarming - as the author has stated throughout the book - how unaware we are about the importance of sleep to all beings. I, for one, had never even dreamed of such severe implications due to poor quality or reduced sleeping, but shared the common misconception of being wake up more is important for success in all areas in life. This book not only correct such mistaken beliefs but will cause a paradigm shift in how we should embrace proper sleeping habits, and soon.
"Humans, modern-living or pre-industrial, need less than seven hours of sleep therefore appears to be a wishful conceit, and a tabloid myth."
I cannot emphasize enough, how important it is for every single person to read this book, and cannot thank the author enough, for this is undoubtedly one the most helpful books one can ever read. I believe everyone should read this - irrespective of any and all variables - and the only worry you will have is not having read it sooner. Read this book, and as soon as you can!

Seeing how short this book was, I wasn't really expecting Who Moved My Cheese? to deliver a lot, though I've seeing it being recommended by many as a great self development book. But the very quick time required to go through the book shifted my opinion drastically, in that, this is indeed one of the most clearly written books on the necessity of adapting and enjoying the change and the importance of it.
To me, all three parts of the book were important, and helped fine-tune the self interpretation I made for the second part. I don't think the book is so successful only because it delivers the message clearly and concisely but also because it adds a lot of humor to the subject with those unique characters, which gives the reader an opportunity to understand the message in an objective yet relaxed way.

Books on business development and entrepreneurship - the good ones - usually have one thing in common: they require slow, patient reading so that the reader will have sufficient amount for time to let the principles sunk in. But in Zero to One, things are different. One could read the entire thing very quickly in a few hours, while retaining most of the contents.
"Monopoly is the condition of every successful business."
By incorporating the author's own personal experiences as well as his system of belief, this book provides an interesting analysis over a broad range of topics. To me, this is the first time a start-up was evaluated using these seemingly mutually exclusive indicators: monopoly, creativity, passion, sales, innovation (instead of iteration), founder characteristics etc.
"Winning is better than losing, but everybody loses when the war isn't worth fighting."
Given how quickly one is able to read this book, it is easy recommending this book for anyone interested in start-ups, for you will definitely be able to share the author's unique interpretation of the business world.

Dr Peale's The Power of Positive Thinking is a very analytical yet mostly religious approach to conditioning a one's mind toward successful living. Instead of recommending a set of superficial instructions, author reaches a much deeper level to provide the reader with an excellent set of guidelines, to be adopted in to our core habits.
"our physical condition is determined very largely by our emotional condition, and our emotional life is profoundly regulated by our thought life."
It's true that almost all the lessons are based on teachings of Bible, which might repel some readers, especially non-Christians. But I believe the teachings explained are universal in nature, in that, they can be easily adopted and interpreted using any religion. I, for one, being a Buddhist, was able to read the book in that way.
Move beyond that, and you will find this book to be an amazing guide, giving the reader an innumerable amount of valuable material.

The two or three hours I spent reading this book each day felt like an amazing meditation capable of calming any rattled mind. The suggestions made by author as solutions for certain common problems are particularly helpful, and easily adoptable to any problems one may have.

If you read this book patiently, giving it enough time for the lightly mentioned yet very deeply meant to absorb thoroughly, you will find this to be one of the most enlightening experiences one will ever have. How Marcus Aurelius had thought of all this such a long time ago is unbelievable. I promise you, you will find wanting to highlight so many of it, if not everything.

One problem I had with this book is to find the 'correct' edition (or translation). I originally purchased the one translated by George W. Chrystal, which seemed a bit complicated. Then after doing a bit of searching, I found there are some popular ones out there. So I found the one by Gregory Hays, which was much clearer. However, now that I'm gone through the entire thing, I will hopefully find the time to read the Chrystal's version some other time.

How the author had managed to deliver so many helpful lessons in so little number of pages seems most incredible. Self-help or Self-development books are often long and descriptive books, typically attempting to orient the reader along a particular school of thought (which is not a bad thing). But this book is an exception to that rule. An incredible amount of principles are explained in this tiny book, and in such a clear way, with all the characteristics of any other self-help book. I'm certain that this should be a must have book for anyone whose interested in this genre. It won't take you more than an hour to read the entire book, but you will be surprised how much you'll come across.

The Alchemist, categorized commonly as fiction, self-development as well as philosophy by most readers, did indeed give the feeling that it belongs to all these types, and then some. I believe, however, the meaning of the books is going to be entirely different from reader to reader, depending on his or her personal philosophical, religious, social and traditional systems of belief.
It's true that most might interpret much similarly the parts on not giving up, having unshaken faith and pursuing one's dreams amid numerous challenges. But there are a quite a lot more in this book, which could be interpreted in various ways. The intangible connection shared by everything that is in existence, certain implications that this is actually a one's journey to understanding universe or enlightenment, the drastic differences in how a single situation is viewed and understood by different spectators, are some of these differences.
But in the end, irrespective of your beliefs, you will well enjoy this book, that is most suited your own way of seeing the world.

Habits, ways of life, behaviors, personalities and character; one might expect once you read a couple of books you have figured most of it, but that, I believe, will never be the case. Each book on these areas will provide interesting insights, while some stand out in certain ways. To me, The Power of Habit was one of these.
"You can't order people to change. That's not how the brain works."
Author dives straight into his representation of habits with the concept of habit-loop at the very beginning of the book, along with strong examples to both support the concept as well as to provide the reader with a much better understanding. In my opinion, the descriptive experiences of the characters in those examples were very helpful to convey the principles in a sound way.
"crises are such valuable opportunities that a wise leader often prolongs a sense of emergency on purpose."
I found most sections to be very informative and interesting, while first few chapters and the concluding framework being the favorites. But, for the latter to be effective, it's best that the readers take the time to read the entire book before start looking for quick answers by directly referring to the framework. It might appear simple, but the contents of the books gives the framework much weight in my opinion.

When I picked up this book, I did not expect it to differ much from the other self-help books in terms of principles to follow. But how amazingly the author had organized this guide? what an incredible amount of information he had analyzed in presenting these principles?
I don't imagine there are many other books which required and carried out more thorough research than this book. The time you invest on reading this incredible guide will no doubt open your mind to a brand new reality of thinking.
