Yes, I’m deep into my second book now and while I won't say too much, I can say that it’s different from Clover in many ways but similar in others. (Infuriatingly vague, I know!). (less)

I actually never imagined I’d write a novel before I had the idea for this one. It began while I was trying to understand my own anxieties around the topic of death, which I’d had since I was a kid. Instead avoiding everything about it—books, articles, podcasts—I’d decided to get curious about it. And that’s when I learned about the concept of a death doula, which struck me as such a noble thing to do, and I wondered what would inspire someone to choose that professional path. Then I thought, ‘what if I could write a book about death for people like me who usually avoid anything death-related, and make it fun, uplifting and optimistic instead of maudlin and depressing’? And that’s how Clover came about!(less)

Memoir is not usually my thing but, wow, I loved this book. Succinct yet mesmerising prose, an inventive structure, and a story that it as raw and compelling as it is warm and tender.

For a book that’s only slightly more than 100 pages this story is impressively layered. A lovely tale of kindness and humanity and how small actions can still be immensely meaningful.

“The secret to a beautiful death is living a beautiful life.”
Mikki Brammer, The Collected Regrets of Clover

“Grief, I'd come to realize was like dust, When you're in the thick of a dust storm, you're completely disoriented by the onslaught, struggling to see or breathe. But as the force recedes, and you slowly find your bearing and see a path forward, the dust begins to settle into the crevices. And it will never disappear completely- as the years pass, you'll find it in unexpected places at unexpected moments.”
Mikki Brammer, The Collected Regrets of Clover

“Instead of constantly asking ourselves the question of why we're here, maybe we should be savoring the simpler truth: We are here.”
Mikki Brammer, The Collected Regrets of Clover
