I realized most of the books had two things in common: the story centered around a sassy female main character who was good with a blade & she existed in a colonial society but that theme was not addressed thoroughly in the book. A Broken Blade came to me sitting on my couch wondering what I would write with these tropes and in this genre. Everything in the book is informed by my perspective as an Indigenous person with knowledge of how colonialism has and continues to impact Turtle Island. The themes of colonialism and indigeneity I explore in the first book will only continue to develop throughout The Halfling Saga. (less)
