BSNL 4G rolls out in Thiruvallur, coming to Chennai soon


BSNL has rolled out its 4G services in the Thiruvallur district and confirmed that Chennai, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts will get the service soon. The nationwide rollout of BSNL’s 4G service is long overdue and is expected to bring nationwide coverage by next month.

For Tamil Nadu in particular, the firm, under the phase IX.2 project, is installing around 2,114 4G towers across Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur districts to initiate the service.

Yesterday, a launch event was held, and the 4G connection was rolled out in the following areas in Thiruvallur district in the presence of Papa Sudhakara Rao, Chief General Manager of BSNL Chennai Telephones:

  • Kolathur
  • Koramangalam
  • LNT Shipyard Kattupalli
  • Minjur
  • Nochili
  • Pallipet
  • Ponneri
  • Poonimangadu
  • RK Pet
  • Sembedu
  • Srikalikapuram
  • Thirupalaivanam
  • Thiruvellavoyal
  • Vanganoor
  • Veeranathur

This project comes under the ‘Make in India’ initiative and is funded by the Universal Service Obligation (USO) Fund of the Centre, costing Rs 16.25 crore. We can soon expect the rollout of BSNL 4G services across these TN districts.

As a confirmation, the BSNL Chennai site has the press release conveying free SIMs for new activations and free 4G SIM upgrades until September 2024.

In the release, BSNL said:

It is hereby conveyed that FREE SIM offer for all new activations and Free 4G SIM upgradation offer is available during the period 01.07.2024 to 30.09.2024 under GSM Mobile services in Chennai Telephones.
