Customer Review

I bought this tv over the summer and out-of-the-box it seemed great, but after working with it for a while, I discovered things that just don't work properly. I thought it was just me, so I ignored the problems until 12/20/22 when I tried very hard to get everything to work. I failed miserably and I decided to try to find a user forum that I could query. I found the official Amazon forum and searched for my problems.
My first problem is that the tv shuts itself off after a very short interval of inactivity (somewhere between 5 and 15 minutes). This was just annoying at first and became a real problem for me when I had to pause a show close to the end and when I got the tv working again, it wouldn't resume the show where I left off, but wanted to start it from the beginning. I tried resetting the sleep timer, but it wouldn't stay reset. There does not appear to be any way to turn off the sleep timer.
On the forum, I found a similar question to mine and the official Amazon position is that there is NO way to turn off the sleep timer (if that is indeed the problem), so I guess we're supposed to live with it.
My second problem is with the remote. As far as I can tell, my remote is defective in that the mute button works fine to mute the sound. The problem arises when I try to unmute the sound. Then the sound comes on for a split second and goes off again - as if I had double tapped the button ON UNMUTE ONLY. I have tried two remedies to get the sound back on - change the volume which works once in a while and turning the tv off which is not a viable solution to the problem.
The forum had nothing on this subject, so I resorted to asking for a call back from Amazon Customer Service.
They called me back and I explained my problem to a nice foreign lady who told me she would send me an email explaining what I needed to do. All I wanted was a new remote. The email instructed me to join AWS (?) which I did until it asked me for a credit card number. I was a bit frustrated. I called again later that day and spoke to another nice foreign lady who listened politely to my tale of woe and put me on hold for a very long time and then cut me off.
I was steaming at that point. I paid for an extended warranty and this is the CS I get? It's still under the regular warranty.
So, this is where it stands at the moment. I will try to call again after New Year, but I'm not holding my breath.
Edit 1/5/23 I got a call from amazon customer service the day after I posted this review and a very nice lady named Jill walked me through the process of 1) resetting the software to factory 2) downloading and installing updates 3) downloading and installing updates 4) downloading and installing updates. Maybe there weren't THAT many, but the last one just seemed to get stuck, so Jill said she'd call me back on 1/3 to see if all was well. I wandered off and, of course, the tv shut itself off. I turned it back on and it still appeared to be updating and I switched it to a different input for the rest of the day. The next day, the muting problem was gone (YAY). It has stopped turning itself off and I'm not certain how that was accomplished, but I never need a sleep timer, so I'll try to remember to never mess with it. Jill said she would send a note to the developers that a way to to set the sleep timer to 'OFF' would be useful. It's currently functionally off when there is is no 'time remaining' visible on the sleep timer setting.
So, now I'm reasonably happy with the TV and have reset my star rating to reflect that satisfaction.
Edit 2/16/23 The tv is back to it's old trick of shutting off at inconvienent times and I'm getting more and more annoyed. I suppose I should try the 'reset to factory' again, but that's bound to be time consuming. I am not a happy camper. A tv should not need SO MUCH maintenance to keep it running properly.
WHY AMAZON, WHY? I've change my rating to reflect my dissatisfaction with this product.
Edit 2/25/23 I did try the reset again, but the problem remains. The tv keeps shutting itself off when unattended. Sometimes it 10-15 minutes, but it's not fixed as well as I can tell. I just want it to stop doing that. It seems to me that the screen saver should be enough to prevent any screen damage, if that is still a thing with led/lcd screens. I'm very unhappy
