Great for safe lock pin
Well didn't realize it needed home base my fault or not my fault idk. Talk wife into getting door bell to get home base. So now it works I took the inside panel off my safe and installed it on the safes locking pin. So I get notifications If I open, if I close, or if it's left open for a period of time. I'm hoping it will give me some peace of mind with kids.

I bought and installed two of these sensors in January 2021, and haven't thought about them since! I was initially weary that the batteries are not replaceable. However, we open and close our doors at least 10 times a day, and with a promised battery life of 2 years, mine still show full battery and work every time without missing a single opening or closing of the doors after nearly 3 and a half years.

Eufy Security Review

I’ve put a lot of time into researching alarm systems. I used to work for an alarm system company and believe in home managed “smart” systems. Eufy caught my eye after a lot of great reviews on the doorbell. I decided to keep all my sensors and cameras within the same system to keep it easier to manage. After having it for 8 months now: I’ll go over the pros and cons of this system from my experience. My system includes: 2k Wireless Doorbell Cam, Door/window sensors, Motion sensors, Eufycam 2c (wireless) version, Eufy Cam 2, and a 2k Indoor Cam Pan and Tilt. I have been testing most cameras on the highest sensitivity

Pros:
1. Won’t drain your wifi: We have relatively low bandwidth, a decent amount of smart devices, and Eufy works well most of the time! The range is good too I have one camera in the backyard away from the house and it streams well.
2. Local recording: Peace of mind knowing someone at the company or something isn’t watching you.. I hope, haha.
3. Installation and setup: Don’t know how it could be easier.
4. Interface is easy to use and setup to customize
5. Battery on dedicated Cameras - The version 2 camera really did last 6 months before I had to charge it, and I had high sensitivity most of the time. The 2C cameras are good, but not quite as advertised. The doorbell is the worst and I have to charge is about every 2-3 weeks.

Cons:
1.) Motion detection - this is my biggest issue with the system as its part of most of the products use this hardware to trigger alerts or record.

- Detection/reach is NOT 30 feet. I’ve measured on multiple cameras and it rarely picks up anything that far away. Usually starts recording at about 10-15 feet (so half?!). Not great.

- People and dogs? Nope. It will often go off with cars, leafs blowing by, when a cloud moves and the suns sines through brighter than the second before, and more. This can be very frustrating, especially when you have it set to “human only” mode. WHAT HUMAN CAN MOVE 35 mph and is 12 feet long? Or what human is 3 inches big and brown…i.e a leaf? Haha.

- Slow: If someone hurries up to your door or by the camera, it won’t pick it up. I get a lot of recording of back of heads as UPS folks are going away.

-Sometimes misses obvious ones: A family member will walk by a camera 10 ft away in the middle of the day, or go to their car and nothing will have been triggered. Kinda scary. This is especially odd since I’ll get 3 triggers a day from a gust of wind, but not a person walking by… I don’t get it.

2.) False Alarms. This is mostly a product of the motion detection and mentioned above. The scariest in when you have the alarm set to “away” in the middle of the night. The heater turns on in the basement and a “motion detection” alarm goes off. You spring out of your bed… oh crap, someone is in the basement?? Grab a gun, wife runs to grab kids… your adrenaline is running high at 2am and… nothing (thankfully). Have that happen a few times with a camera, or motion sensor and then it becomes a boy who cried wolf situation. Scary when you actually need to be alarmed though you’ve built up a tolerance. But hey, now I’m getting good at “sweeping” an area much like a SWAT team I see in the movies? Haha

3.) Default evening motion detection is set to “all things”. So if cars go by, you’ll have to turn off notifications or else you’ll get a LOT, all night.

4.) Doorbell Battery life: if you want to monitor well, it dies quickly. Again, it picks things up late in my experience so I have to have it on high sensitivity or it misses obvious things. And yes, I’ve tried placing it in different spots.

5.) Image quality not as advertised- for “2k” on some of these cameras, it’s not like the advertisements where you can zoom in and clearly see a license plate or something haha. Faces are pretty good, but it’s not thaaaat great. Better than others for sure, but still not what you’d expect for what seems to be the highest def in the consumer wireless market.

6) Incomplete Security items: These are bonuses, but a fire-alarm, flood sensors, or other items that would make it complete. This includes monitoring service. Would be great to have IF you go away on vacation for a week. I’d pay for it. Lastly, I love that a certain competitor has a cell signal incase wifi goes out.

7) Indoor cam has its own security settings. Why is this separate? Just treat as another 2c, or version 2 camera.

Conclusion: I had high hopes for this system. Other systems seems to be less compatible with google home, or charge money to use the cloud, or don’t locally record, etc…. It seems there is not a perfect complete system. This one is pretty good If I were to do it again I would just use the doorbell and maybe door/window sensors. I then would get the cameras and motion sensors from a different company and hope I can bridge it all to a google home or something.

Lots of potential. Hardware is very well designed. Software feels like it’s still under development.
We’ve recently purchased many eufy security products. These sensors pair easily to my eufy homebase 2 and read the door’s open-close status reliability. However, Because of the software, they seem pretty useless.
Right now, I can “arm” my eufy security system and an alarm will sound when the door is opened. That’s good. But the app requires many taps to arm/disarm the system and there’s currently no integration with other systems like HomeKit or August.
I expect one big button to arm/disarm all my smart home security devices.
Adding integrations to arm/disarm the system or Siri Shortcuts would be a big improvement!

Additionally, the sensor has no chime feature with the homebase making it useless unless the system is “Armed”. It would be very useful to hear a pleasant chime from the homebase or the eufy video doorbell chime when my young kids open the door unsupervised.

Ultimately, it’s a neat add-on to my eufy cameras, but features seem a bit raw or missing. I’m hopeful eufy will continue development.

Update: Anker emailed me about my review and apologized for the experience. As part of the apology they sent a cool little battery bank. I’m glad they care and are paying attention. I hope this means they’re adding my requested software changes. Unfortunately for Anker, my review doesn’t change until they change how this product integrates with the rest of the system.

More updates: Anker/eufy has continued to pursue total satisfaction. I must say I’m impressed. If they’re product development work’s nearly as hard as their customer service, they’ll be adding my requested changes in no time. Along with this update I must mention an announcement by eufy at CES 2020. Eufy is releasing a new keypad with home/away buttons thereby satisfying one of my major complaints with this system as an alarm. I am increasing my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars out of optimism for future updates as well as outstanding customer service.

Update 7/8/2020
The requested door chime feature has been added. Now a pleasant chime is made by the hombase2 when a door is opened.
They still lack in integration even among their own products. If I arm the alarm system, (camera, motion, and door sensors paired to the homebase2) other devices like the floodlight cam outside are unaffected and do not switch into an “away” mode without additional action in the app.

I purchased a couple of these entry sensors in addition to the Eufy Security 5-Piece Home Alarm Kit, which is equipped with just two sensors. The delivery was promptly and well-packed. These were installed following the installation of the 5-piece kit. Once, installed and synchronized with the home base, they were added to the controller app, they have been working perfectly thus far. The only negative that I can see with these sensors are the magnet housing, where on some porous surface like an unpainted door frame, the sticky pad in the back was not strong enough against the magnetic tendency to pull it toward the sensor, so I tried to keep it in place with the provided screw; however, that did not worked-out satisfactory b/c the plastic base of the housing was not sturdy, the plastic housing is a little flimsy, and the screw head is tiny. So, to fix it, I had to fabricate a little bracket to hold the magnet assembly in place.

Recommendation to Eufy: improve the magnet housing assembly by making it a little wider and sturdier along with a larger screw that is capable of holding it down securely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid entry/exit sensor!

Another quality Eufy security device. These install easy and work perfect. The response time in my home is 1-2 seconds max. I use one on my main door as an arm and disarm spot and it provides that subscritpion hardware feel in a very smart DIY system.

The considerations here will be related to install location. You have to have the little magnet no more than 4cm from the sensor so you need to make sure your mounting points are close enough together. Do you have thick door trim or a large gap between the door and a solid mounting point? Weird textures or recessed sidelight glass? Consider where you'll put the pieces before you order and especially before you stick or screw them in. 4cm is a good distance and should work for most people.

These make a great addition to my Eufy smart DIY security system.

Installed these on the doors & ground level windows in a (new to me) house for peace of mind. I currently have a Eufy camera that works with the base station - so these were a no brainer add on. (you need the base station, currently) Simple to install - each piece backed with 3M tape. Easy to add to the app - was able to sync each one within a minute. You can label them as you like, and reorder the list in the app, so you see what you want. Sends notification to app of door open/close in 2 - 30 seconds real time of action. ( in my experience so far.) (I have sirens off.) Specs say battery will last a year. (will be simple to swap out, but those batteries are not the cheapest. ) I've had them approx 2 weeks now, no issues. Definitely recommend, for their function, if you already have a base station to sync to.
