Second of these purchased to date, they just work.

I have an older iPhone which can only locate tags using the basic bluetooth functionality - so cannot test ultra wideband navigation by arrows for example but, what these tags do - they do well (as you'd expect from Apple).

Setup is a breeze, pull out the battery saver clear tab and hold it next to your iPhone. Your iPhone should detect the tag and offer the necessary setup steps to configure.. done, thats it.

I have but two criticisms:
1). When using the lost mode (which effectively tracks the device via other iPhones when in BT range). The tag will likely produce a subtle beep - as it has a tiny in-built speaker (which kind defeats the idea using to protect a something from being stolen) as the thief will simply locate (when notified it has one) and then remove.

2). I also understand that since the anti-stalking measures were introduced by Apple - these tags will also notify any iPhone user (within Bluetooth range) of the presence of an Airtag is nearby - again, the thief will simply remove if discovered.

The challenge therefore is to conceal your tag on your precious item and ensure you track its location quickly - before a thief realises it has one. You also have to hope they have an older (non Android v6.0. or better phone) which cannot detect their presence which will buy you more time to track.

I hope Apple will provide something in the future to allow this required functionality but, these tags are good otherwise.
