Customer Review

Whilst definitely the focus is pre-war, I thought this would have far more about the history of mushroom consumption and processing prior to the 1800s, but the author seems slightly fixated on more modern fare. There is an inexplicable change halfway through the text, most unwelcome, where the author turns to a discussion of fish knife manufacture, but to make things worse, and in common with many texts regarding this region, a casual reader might think soup spoons did not, and never had, existed. Whilst all, I'm sure, have the utmost respect for Prof. Van Dyke's previous work in microbiology ("Fantastic yeasts and where to find them: the hidden diversity of dimorphic fungal pathogens", and "Medical marijuana: Can't we all just get a bong?") I can't help feeling that Barry got distracted in some way during this field trip.
