I love that these lamps are under half the price of most big name alternatives. They work most of the time, I am not sure if it is the Tapo app that causes connectivity issues or the lamp itself? I have some Hive lamps and they do not seem to suffer the same issues, it could also be the Alexa interface. That said the connection is usually easily re-established and is not lost too often. The price gives this bulb an extra star.

Had been using the really cheap chinese units on Amazon (Teckin etc) that use Smart Life / Tuya app and whilst it worked for Google Home/Alexa integration it really lacked the reliability and simplification that you'd hope for when "setting and forgetting". I can't tell you how many times I had to factory reset or "reconnect" those units the time I had them.

So I decided it was time to fully make the switch to 1 Smart Home provider and TP-Link was the answer! The app is polished and really easy to use, the units themselves are great and pairing is SO EASY! gone are those weird reset tasks or "reconnect" jobbys.

The bulbs themselves are nicely made, really bright but also go down very low on 1% and are great for a nightlight. I've got them for the living room, garden lights & bedroom lamps.

Nicely done :D, don't hesitate. Bargain.

Got a mishmash of different “smart” things, have Tapo plugs already, thought I would give a bulb a try, TP link, did have 2 brands of smart stuff, one called Kasa and one called Tapo, thankfully, both brands now work from the Tapo app, which was handy as my older plugs where Kasa branded.

So what about the feature I mentioned ?

You can set the light to slowly, or quickly, if you like, ramp up or down in brightness over time, this is not uncommon, however, the settings used in the Tapo app, also persists when used via Alexa, so I set mine to ramp the bulb brightness down over 20 seconds in my living room, so when I go to bed, I can still see across the room, as I walk to the stairs, I even got a second bulb to ramp the brightness up in my bedroom in the morning, such a nicer way to wake up. I know this can be done with routines in Alexa, but who has time for that, a few clicks in the Tapo app, sorted, not a big thing, but better.

As for TP Link gear, it seems to be good for a reasonable price, one of my Kasa plugs has failed, but it must be 6 or 7 years old and used at least 2 or 3 times every day, with no days off, let’s hope the bulb does as well.
