Ideal to keep your precious data safe. With W.D. you don't go wrong. It is well known as a leader in this industry. I keep all my photos and music and basically everything from my computer hard drive.
Even as good as W.D. are, it is still a machine with mechanical parts. Machines can fail. Since redundancy is the key, you need to have more than one of these units. I am a serious photographer and at 8 TB, it will take quite a while before I fill this unit.
Since a machine can fail, no matter on how good it is, you need to have several of them in order to keep your precious data safe. Me I buy a new one every year. so far I have 5 of these W.D. units. This is the only brand I trust. All my data are on each of these. So if one fails, you still have others.
You have to decide for yourself on how precious are your data? It is a good idea to keep at least a few of them in separate locations, just in case......
