Honestly I have no idea if this even does anything. I just change it when my fridge complains about it but every time I pull the filter out it doesn't really look like the filter did anything to be quite honest. Nonetheless, I figure maybe it filters out something I can't see maybe? Idk, but I suppose it's better to be safe than sorry. Installation is quite simple, but I wish they were a little cheaper.
