I operate a farm with sheep. I have 6 flock guardian dogs that come and go from the house from time to time. They very rarely have an accident in the house, but if they do I can easily see the puddle they left, so I don't really need a UV light to locate that sort of thing. I'm also looking after my daughter's 4 cats. They are a different story. They are sneaky about urinating in the house and one of them does it quite often. I don't notice it until after it dries and I can smell it. I know one location where one of them goes repeatedly. This light shows absolutely no difference between that spot and the surround floor. There is another spot one of them goes near the wood stove. The light indicates nothing. Those are the known locations that I tested the light on. I clean those locations well to eliminate odor; however, there are other locations that I am not aware of but can smell. Searching the approximate area where the odor is coming from reveals nothing. These are all wooden floors; Maple in the kitchen, Beech in the living room, Birch in the study, and the rest is pine. This light shows absolutely no indication of places the cats have urinated. It might fluoresce blood I suppose, haven't tried that, but that is not an issue as there doesn't tend to be blood spattered around. The only thing this light does is make white objects look purple like white backed books on a shelf etc. If finding the location of pet odors is the reason you want to order this light, then don't bother. It's more effective to crawl around with your nose on the floor sniffing. Save your money for something else. I gave it 3 stars for easy to use because you just have to push a button like any other flashlight. Overall I'd give it an absolute zero for detecting the source of urine odor.
