Installation Tips

  • Installation difficulty: High
  • Time spent: 1 hour or more
  • Patience needed: High
  • Go slow. Check every connection. Keep your screws and inner parts organized. Watch a YouTube video on how to do it though, pausing and replaying often.
  • During reassembling the handheld console you must be conscious of how tight you are tightening the screws, and be careful not to strip the screws or over-tighten any screws.
  • There are multiple very delicate ribbon cables in the device that need to be removed and reattached.
  • Use tweezers instead of bulky fingers at all times to help with the little pieces that you'll take to move to the new case.
  • Be careful to use a heat gun or hair dryer to help you get the touchscreen off before installing the Power and Volume buttons.
  • Note that the temperature of the heat gun should not be much high. Use light hot wind to evenly heat the edges of the screen.
  • Please remember not to forcibly lift the screen and make sure the distance is no more than 3mm when using the prying tool to tear down the screen to avoid damage.

Needs to come with a plastic guitar pick, don’t use the metal one that ships with it.

All the buttons work great and the trackpad seems very precise still.

Screws are not labeled, but pretty easy to tell what ones to use, they’re probably exactly the same. Times I just used the originals when screwing into non-plastic holes.

Will try and remember to update in 6 months to see how the colour holds out to uv rays.

Anywho, I bought this so I can know how big the steam deck is. I only just bought the shell and just to know how big it is. Yeah, pretty big good to fit in the hand but I just wanted to see if I had the actual system. Anywho, this is a good buy for you. Amazon steam deck buyers if you don't know what you're doing with this, do not install it. You may destroy something in the steam guy and you don't want that. Trust me I had the Nintendo switch light. I opened it up and I f***** the left trigger and it doesn't work. That and the power and the volume button on on the manual side doesn't put in. I am not a total novice to to tinkering with electronics, but this was a little more involved than usual.

I had my own tools already to make it easier, and my own plastic picks. The YouTube videos were spot on, but some parts gave me more fuss than they seemed in the video (removing the thumbpad boards from the square button/pad for example, uses another person's suggestion and warmed it a bit with a hair dryer).

The screen part gave me some pucker factor, but I just went slow and got it really warm and worked the edge of the screen like the video. I had better suction cups, but to be honest I thought they put *too* much pulling force which made me nervous, so I used the "crappier" one and it worked fine.

All in all, it came out great. I may/may not have to reopen it a few times for things I might have missed (oops) or it didn't fit together right, but I learned a lot about taking it apart several times. Super modular!

Took me about 4 or so hours. Just label everything to help keep track of you get confused.

I wish the "new" screws were labeled in bags to make for quicker swap outs instead of comparing a bunch of loose screws to the original ones to know what to use (you can also always use the original ones as well if you get frustrated/confused).

Love the look and it has a quality/solid feet to it.

Hab ein paar Knöpfe vom Original behalten, wegen dem Kontrast, Aber sieht einfach Mega aus.
