Does What I Need It To Do
I have fine hair that gets greasy really fast, easily gets flat, and I do get some flakes and scalp acne; I also try to stretch the time in between washes with dry shampoo and am physically active. All that's to say that I typically like to do something clarifying once every week or two weeks to get rid of the build up in my hair. This is Kerastase so it's expected to be a pricey product, but I'd expect it to be salon quality amazing as the brand perpetuates. Be warned that it is a mix of a physical and chemical exfoliant, so you will need to take more time to really rinse the product out.The smell is nice and not overwhelming, it lathers well, and it rinses out pretty well (like I said, take your time to get it out). It's better than other scalp scrubs I've tried specifically because of the ease of lather. My hair felt really clean afterward, but it was a squeaky clean feeling so beware if you don't actually have an oily scalp or a lot of build up. There's no need for a second wash or anything because your hair will feel CLEAN. I followed up with a hair mask and would highly recommend that.Post wash, my hair feels super light and has a lot of volume so it definitely cleared it of any build up. While I'm not crazy about the physical exfoliation, I do find that it clarifies the best out of any clarifying shampoo or scalp scrub I've tried. Is it a luxury? Yes. Does it work? Also yes. Do you need it? That's honestly up to you.

I have long, fine, limp hair that's prone to greasiness and I often get dandruff, too.
I've been using this Kerastase scalp scrub for three weeks now. I wash my hair every 2-3 days, and I've been using the scrub in place of shampoo.
The scalp scrub has both physical and chemical exfoliants (microbeads and salicylic acid). The scrub is clear, with a slightly brownish hue. The microbeads are soft and non-irritating, I don't think I'd notice whether they're there or not. The scrub isn't gritty like a body scrub, it has the same consistency as shampoo.
The scrub smells like shampoo, nothing special about it, and the scent rinses out of my hair and doesn't linger. This is a scalp scrub, not a shampoo, so it's important for it to have contact with the scalp. Because of this I use about twice as much of it as I would shampoo, and I use my silicone scalp scrubber to make sure it gets good contact with my scalp. It foams up like crazy, it makes TONS of lather that I then bring down the lengths of my hair.
This scrub rinses out really well. I don't find that it takes any extra rinsing over a regular shampoo, and it leaves my scalp and hair "squeaky clean" feeling.
In the three weeks since I've started using this scrub, I've noticed that my scalp gets less oily and so my hair feels/looks less limp. It's got a bit more volume and bounce to it without the oily scalp, yet it doesn't dry out the lengths of my hair at all, which is kind of amazing. I do have a reduction in flakes (they weren't bad before, but they're non-existent now) and my scalp just feels...comfortable.
I suspect that this scrub gives best results when used regularly, and I do use more of it than I do shampoo. At $55/bottle (price at the time of review) it's not inexpensive - but I would be absolutely THRILLED if someone loved me enough to gift it to me, because (for hair/scalp like mine) it works, and it works well. This scalp treatment is a winner for greasy/flaky scalps.

It does the work. The only reason to give 4 starts is because sometimes is hard to wash it of the hair. Need to wash the hair more than once

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I had never tried a Kerastase product previously and wanted to see what the hype of this brand was about. It is made in France and is a reputable brand in the hair care world so I had high hopes. I can sometimes have flakes build up on my scalp and wanted to see how this product worked for this problem, so I was excited to try it.

It mentions on the listing that this product helps to soothe sensitive scalps. Unfortunately, after application and rinsing the product out of my hair, I did notice some itchiness and a feeling of irritation to my scalp. I do have a sensitive scalp and sensitive skin, but I figured this reaction was probably due to the artificial fragrance in the product as well as the addition of sulfates to the product as sulfates are a known skin irritant.

I do not know why fragrance, especially one that is not natural from essential oils, is added to a product that is labelled to be for those who have sensitive scalps. At first, even knowing the fragrance isn't natural, the scent is pleasant and not too strong. However, once the product is used and even after it is rinsed out, the smell lingers in the air for a very long time. I had to shampoo my hair twice after application, not just because of how it was affecting my scalp, but also because the scent was just so strong and making me feel sick.

The Q&A section on the product listing mentions there are no sulphates in the product. However, the ingredients list has both sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate in it so this is incorrect information. Sulfates and sulphates are the same thing. Sulfates are known to irritate skin and thankfully there are alternatives out there. Needless to say, I wish less irritating foaming agents were used instead. If this is a product advertised for those with sensitive scalps, I am not sure why a gentler alternative was not used instead.

On the other hand, the product does exactly what it claims. It really did an excellent job at removing all flakes and impurities from my scalp. The exfoliating and scrubbing features of the product are top notch. The apricot seed powder helps give a light exfoliating feel and the sulfates really do help the product to have a nice foaming action (as to be expected) so it is therefore easy to work with and spread throughout your hair and scalp.

I am torn on this product because it does work really well and lives up to its intended purpose. On the other hand, I wish there were gentler surfactants and fragrances used in the product so it could actually be suitable for sensitive scalps. The product is quite pricey, but that is to be expected from this brand as it is a professional brand name. Also, it is a product you won't use more than 1-2 times a week so it won't go too quickly. Lastly, it is a specialty product in that it can help with an ongoing issue so the cost will be especially worth it if it can solve an ongoing scalp/dandruff issue for the user. I can recommend this product for those who feel it can help with their scalp conditions, but I would be wary if you are prone to sensitivity with fragrances or sulfate surfactants.

This is my first Kerastase hair product, it looks fancy and I was excited to try it. It comes in a handy squeeze bottle that arrived sealed and protected with additional tape to prevent leakage. It has a pleasant, mildly floral, hair producty smell. I don’t like strong scents but I like this one.

I have long fine slightly wavy hair that I’ve been washing about 1x/week with a scalp scrub for the past year that really agrees with my hair. Cleanses without stripping so it doesn’t get greasy too fast. I don’t get dandruff but I liked the idea of another scrub like product.

It indeed has small exfoliating grains (apricot seed powder) in its gel like consistency. I used about 1/2 Tbsp to wash my hair, and scrubbed with my silicone massage scrubber tool. Rinsed out great. Feels more stripping (though it says non stripping in the description) than my other product so we’ll see if my hair makes it a week before needing washing. Needed more conditioner to smooth out my hair afterwards.

I’m not using it for dandruff so I might use it 1x/month depending how my scalp does with it. Just for a deeper cleanse.

I’ll report back with the results.

55$ for 200ml is pricey, but if you only need to wash your hair 1x/week like I do it ends up lasting quite a while and may be worth it. Sometimes you have to invest a little for the right products for hair I’ve learned. And that’s coming from a frugal gal!
