Slimmer, sleeker protection for iPods Pro ear buds!
I have just received the new version of the iPods Pro protector case from ESR, which like so many of the products I have from them to date, appears to be made to very high standard in terms of materials and construction.Overall, in comparing this to the ESR case I have now, it is a few millimeters slimmer in each dimension, most notably in back to front thickness, which is great for reduced weight and increased space efficiency. On the flip side, this comes at the expense of case thickness, which means there is less energy absorbing material. That’s not to say that it’s insufficient to the task, as it may very well be for the test protocol they followed - and I have never had any reason to date to doubt their durability and protection claims - only that I have observed the thickness to be reduced by about 40-50 percent. Perhaps the prior version was over-engineered for the typical use case, but as an engineer, I often appreciate that approach.The shape is more in line with the AirPods case which I suppose might be important to anyone that values that, and it certainly is pleasant to hold in hand. On the flip side, the smooth surface and lack of texture or other geometry makes me wonder if it might slip out of my pants pocket a little easier, even as I appreciate the reduced bulk. I advise making use of the carabiner clip provided and maybe even getting a locking one at some point. I would also like to see ESR look at a “grippier” design, possibly a multilateral design with some slightly raised corner bumpers and fine ridges wrapping around the center.One thing that definitely works in favour of the new design is how much easier it is to align for charging purposes vs the squarish design profile of its predecessor. And, with the reduced thickness, charging is likely to be slightly faster and more efficient. I could definitely feel less residual heat after a charge cycle than with the prior design, which either indicates increased efficiency, better transmission of heat across the thickness or a mix of the two.. Very good performance regardless.In summary, I am loving the new case, which has top construction and presumably good impact performance; I am just a little leery of losing it more easily because of the slick new design profile.Not shown: Black carabiner clip

Good case that gives a bit of protection and restores MagSafe functionality. Good value, fits nice and snug with no signs of coming loose.

Coming from a chonkier Caseology case designed to take a fall I’m a tad worried that being so thin this won’t do much in the way of drop protection (and the material is quite slippery in the hands), but it will definitely keep the AirPods case from getting scuffs and scratches in my pocket/bag/anywhere else I toss it. I’ll have to see how the slippery material holds up to scuffs and scrapes long term but so far it shows no signs of being a fingerprint magnet at least.

Having a carabiner is a great add though I wish the silicone opening was large enough for the carabiner provided and didn’t require the use of a flimsy key ring. I ended up going with the Nite -Ize S-Biner #2 and it fits through the loop without the key ring so it’s not much of an issue for me.

MagSafe is a must have for me now and if you’re into thin cases and aren’t worried about drop protection, this is an amazing find for the price. It does the thing, no muss no fuss and does it at a reasonable price. MagSafe all the things.

I’ve really only had 2ish ESR products but each one has been innovative when it comes to apple products, this one just adds the one feature I thought was missing from AirPods cases which was MagSafe.

Works exactly as intended, and this along with their MagSafe charger with the fan I’d say are my top two apple accessories, so much so that I removed my gifted Nomad leather case (as much love as I have for the quality, I need it to charge wirelessly in my car), sorry to my SO lol.

10/10 initial review so far, will update as I continue to use it. Comes with a small carabiner which I will never use, it’s a fairly hard plastic/matte feel, and the button for pairing is pressable.

EDIT: I had to cut off the carabiner loop as it was protruding quite far out and was uncomfortable/annoying, so now it is flush. My only room for improvement so far is to just cut a hole out so you can access the actual lanyard loop and not force people to be stuck with the nub.

Works exactly as intended, and this along with their MagSafe charger with the fan I’d say are my top two apple accessories, so much so that I removed my gifted Nomad leather case (as much love as I have for the quality, I need it to charge wirelessly in my car), sorry to my SO lol.

10/10 initial review so far, will update as I continue to use it. Comes with a small carabiner which I will never use, it’s a fairly hard plastic/matte feel, and the button for pairing is pressable.

EDIT: I had to cut off the carabiner loop as it was protruding quite far out and was uncomfortable/annoying, so now it is flush. My only room for improvement so far is to just cut a hole out so you can access the actual lanyard loop and not force people to be stuck with the nub.

I replaced a previous Airpods Pro case made of silicone, which stretched out of shape before long. This case is made of thermoplastic polyurethane, which is known for elasticity, flexibility, abrasion and impact resistance. It fits perfectly and charges in the case wirelessly without any issues.

The blue color is attractive and doesn't fade. The top of the case fixes to the top of the lid of the Airpods case with some strong, but not too strong, adhesive. It's exactly what I needed and a great value. Highly recommend.

I’ve seen and tried a lot of AirPods Pro cases that are rubber, plastic or silicone based and they all end up feeling cheap. This ESR case is the closest I have a case come to matching the quality of the cases sold at Apple stores at much higher prices. It feels nice in the hand on the front and is quite solid. The magnets on the back obviously mean it’s not the most symmetrical case but if you can get over that for it’s function, then you’ll love this case. There is a loop made out of the same material for a key ring and it’s nice and strong.
