First impressions-------------------Neat device. Feels pretty good and solid. To me what it is, is a Bluetooth speaker/remote that has dedicated functionality to the app. I think they did a great job integrating this (Where THIS is google translate) as a physical tool through their app.Pros----- -Quality physical device -speaker is loud enough to hear in your close conversation vicinity but has volume controls -works quickly to capture, translate and read aloud in between 2 selected languages (A and B) -app is easy to see and understand what was said (also to repeat/replay) what was said -convenient way to have a short conversation anywhere in the world (essentially) -admittedly it is kinda cool and fun to useCons------ -requires account to use and track your information like usage -Tokens required to purchase OFFLINE package (1/8) available (Kind of expensive) -battery is not large -kind of gimmicky *Conclusion-------------I definitely recommend this nice little product. It was able to demonstrate to me a fair level of accuracy with only a second or two to translate and read-out (network dependent). HOWEVER… I did not test offline mode as to me the EA Sports cost modeling is not appealing and I don’t need it enough to dedicate $120 per language pack to unlock. There are other smaller temporary packages available (7 days, 30 days etc..) but again you only have 8 choices of OFFLINE (popular languages) packs, but I think it was over 70 languages ONLINE (For free with device purchase and app download and account to use).*Why do I say this is a little gimmicky? Well, you need your phone and an app and an account to track your information and usage to use this device whether you are Online or Offline.. when.. google translate from your phone (website, not an app) doesn’t require an account and will auto detect the language etc.. and playback .. now it is a little more cumbersome to have a full blown conversation with Google translate website, but this is to get you through the airport at customs, or buy some beer on vacation. What’s easier? The device. And it’s cool to use. The question is whether it is completely necessary.. no, but it depends on your situation. This is a cool gimmick that really upsells after you’ve already purchased the device. Leads me to explain the EA Sports cost model really quickly.. Annoyingly even if you buy an EA Sports game, there are usually components missing to fully experience the game. So you need to purchase them. An EA example like going out for dinner; When buying a meal and you get a plate to start with. Everything else is locked. You need to purchase them to unlock them. Like a glass of water.. well that’s 2 things.. a glass.. and some water. Both for a fee. Knife and fork to eat with? Yup, extras, both.. oh you wanted food, burger $$, fries $$ are extra too. Oh a place to sit, guess what.. $$$. Drives me nuts! Rant over.Okay finally, it’s still a solid 4 star device. I think that it works quite well for what I would need it for, and with my limited French I was able to confirm some pretty good accuracy. I did needed to repeat myself once in French but that was likely me. It picked up most of it the first time, but nailed it on the second time. Everything else worked as expected once setup.
