easy,quiet ,Transfer speed is Good
would recommend This one...
This is very disruptive if you're in the middle of doing stuff with drives in the other slots, and I'm happy to confirm that this TerraMaster unit does NOT suffer from this design flaw. Each drive is treated totally independently, and otherwise it is reliable, quiet (despite having fans, which keep the drives very cool) and does not appear to bottleneck the drive throughput meaningfully. Highly recommended.
I decided on the TerraMaster D4-300 as it didn't indicate it had compatibility issues with the WD Gold drives. After using it for several weeks, here are my thoughts:
Pros:
* The hard drive installation was easy and all four drives were recognized by Windows. In my case it was 8 TB WD Gold x 2, 8 TB WD White Label (shucked from MyBook), 3 TB WD Green (shucked from MyBook).
* Single drive speed was 150 - 160 MB/s which is good. Once multiple drives were in use - copying files to two or more drives - the speeds were drop as the drives shared the 150 - 160 MB/s throughput. Each drive speed is also dependent on the drive.
* Works with my setup using Stablebit DrivePool and Scanner.
* No connection/disconnection issues so far.
Cons:
* The fans in the back are basically useless - they don't seem to move much air which is the reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. Since I came up with a solution (see next point), I decided not to give it 3 stars.
* The 8 TB drives became toasty - 48 - 50 degress Celsius. This was the same as when the 8 TB drive was in its enclosure without any fans. Too hot for my liking. To solve this I placed an AC Infinity 80mm fan at the front of the enclosure that is blowing air into the drive bays (see picture). The temps of the 8 TB drives are now 39-42 degress Celsius.
Overall, this is a good enclosure that has worked well for me. I had no issues with installing the drives and having Windows detect each one properly.
The fans in the rear don't move enough air to cool the drive properly, but a fan in the front solved that issue. Not the best, but it works. If they can provide better fans, then this would be a 5 star enclosure.

I installed 2 3.5" HDDs but so far, and both LEDs on the front of the box are it, so I think they're powered up ok. Windows only sees one of the two HDDs in the Disk Management control panel, so not much joy there. They're both Linux filesystems so I'll reboot to Linux and try again.
I installed a 2.5" SSD, which I'm sure has Windows installed, but the LED on the front of the Terramaster isn't lit, so I don't think it's recognised. I'll try rebooting and see if Linux can see it.
So far, minimal progress with accessing the drives, and the build quality of the trays are disappointing.
Will I return it? That depends if I can access the drives or not.
