CleanTech company Cellexcel – spun out of the University of East Anglia in Norwich – has beaten a strong array of Cambridge startups to be crowned KPMG’s East of England Tech Innovator and secure a place in the national final of a global search for the most exciting businesses in the sector. Cellexcel’s vision is to enable Net Zero by enhancing the performance and increase the usage of plant-based materials in manufacturing without the use of PFAS or other non-biodegradable materials, that prevent recycling. Timothy Pryce, CEO of Cellexcel, impressed a panel of judges at the pitching competition held at KPMG’s offices at Fora Cambridge to take home the regional Tech Innovator title. Joe Faulkner, Senior partner for KPMG UK’s offices in the East of England said: “We had an outstanding response from local innovators entering the competition and a shortlist of 10 amazing businesses, stretching from semiconductors, to EdTech through to smart pressure sensing fabric. “Cellexcel delivered a superb pitch which really impressed the judges with not only its technology, but its potential for growth in what is an important market as part of the global fight against climate change.” Cellexcel progresses to the national final in London in July to pitch against the winners from seven other regions for the title of Tech Innovator in the UK 2024. The overall winner will represent the UK at a global final, which takes place alongside Web Summit in November where they will compete against businesses from 23 other countries. • Pictured (l-r) are Judges Chris Bruce, Emmi Nicholl, Roz Bird; George Kolokotronis (VOLTQUANT, runner-up), Tim Pryce (Cellexcel, winner); judges Gerard Grech and Paul Boon with KPMG duo Joe Faulkner and Tim Cross. We are still celebrating the news that Faye Holland, founder and director of Cofinitive Communications and #21toWatch, has been included, very deservingly, in the prestigious InspiringFifty UK list for 2024. InspiringFifty UK is an annual initiative which recognizes the inspirational efforts of the Top 50 women making significant strides within the technology sector across the UK, inspiring future generations of women and young girls to follow a similar career path. This year’s winners were announced at a gala event held at Kensington Rooftop Gardens last week, and which was opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice. She was joined by Google UK MD, Debbie W., Cherie Blair CBE (Cherie Booth K.C.) and author/Bridget Jones creator, Helen Fielding to celebrate the vital role women play in tech, business and innovation - encouraging even more women to lead founding teams, startup boards, investment committees, and C-Suites. Congratulations to all the phenomenal women on the list – and especially those who we have collaborated and crossed paths within Cambridge: former #21toWatch Top21 winner, Aleksandra Pedraszewska; Featurespace CEO, Martina King; and Nu Quantum founder/ CEO, Carmen Palacios-Berraquero. Faye said: “It is incredible to be named one of the InspiringFifty UK for 2024, and especially in the company of such a talented group of women whose trajectories and achievements in technology are nothing short of extraordinary. “As a specialist agency, the team at cofinitive deliver impactful communications for early-stage tech entrepreneurs, scaleups and companies poised to make a difference in the world - elevating their presence through strategy, PR, marketing, branding/rebranding and website design. “And through #21toWatch, our annual tech and innovation awards, we spotlight the emerging, outstanding talent from across our East of England region: those that really deserve recognition, funding and support because what they are doing is truly ground-breaking. “I hope the work the InspiringFifty does across so many diverse sectors under the banner of tech and innovation, will continue to encourage and inspire future generations of women to consider an exciting career within our sector.” Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/eG8Js7xZ #BEcofinitive #InspiringFifty #EQLHER #FoundersForum #LondonTechWeek #womenintech #tech #women #leaders Founders Forum Group, Carolyn Dawson, EQL:HER, Laura Stebbing, Amber Preston, Olivia Soan

I am absolutely delighted, and so proud of the work our small but perfectly formed team does. We make an impact, and we are passionate about what we do. 🌟 The fact that we went up three places in PR companies outside of London is incredible, especially when we all know it's tough out there at the moment for many service providers. 🗺 To be the ONLY PR and Comms company listed from Cambridge (and Cambridgeshire) is humbling. 🎯 And to be number 62 nationally in the Technology PR specialists category is a testament to the trust our clients put in us, thank you. Yes, we are a respected, busy PR and Comms company - but we always want to talk to more interesting tech companies - locally and internationally, so drop us a line, and let's see where we can make a difference for you 👍

We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of our Series B funding round, raising £29m in investment capital. Led by specialist battery and energy storage technology investor Volta Energy Technologies, and with CBMM, BGF, and Cambridge Enterprise, this investment will enable us to bring our niobium-based XNO® anode material to the market at volume. As Volta’s first investment into a European headquartered company, combined with the soon-to-open 2,000 tonne per year XNO® manufacturing facility with CBMM, this highlights our position as a rising British battery technology business within the crucial global battery industry. Our CEO, Jean de La Verpilliere, said: “Our ambition is to deliver the best fast-charging batteries to unlock the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles. The investment cements our ambition to achieve full-scale commercialisation and full production volume. “The entire Echion team has worked tirelessly to develop our flagship XNO® material into what it is today, and this has enabled us to establish partnerships with many major OEMs and cell manufacturers who have recognised the benefits of our materials."
