These are the loudest phones we tested in 2023

Victor, 30 December 2023

In 2023, we reviewed more than 110 phones. One of the tests we run evaluates the quality of the loudspeaker setup. Besides the output quality, we also measure sheer loudness.

Curious as always, we dug into the numbers, and we present you the Top 15 loudest smartphones from the past year.

Motorola smartphones have some serious presence. Apparently, the company’s phones are often tuned for loudness. Tecno also stands out for having two Phantom phones featured on the list.

It is important to note that we measure the average loudness of the speakers as opposed to the peak momentary loudness. Loudness is measured in LUFS, which is represented as a negative value, so the lower the absolute number, the louder the device.

Just for the fun of it, we also ran a quick query on our database to find the quietest devices we’ve tested throughout 2023. As expected, the list is mostly full of budget phones, many of which also feature a single-speaker setup.
