Spotify finally made its debut in the Indian market last week. And in less than a week the music streaming service has clocked 1 million unique users in the country.
These numbers include users across both the free and premium tiers. Spotify's premium plans in India start at INR 13 for a day and go all the way up to INR 1,189 (around $17) for a year. The streaming service also has weekly, monthly, and quarterly plans in its catalog. And it also offers 50% discount to the students.
Those who are not willing to pay can continue to use the ad-supported version for free.
Spotify's been late to come to India and will face competition from international players like Apple Music, Google Play Music, and Amazon Prime Music. But these aren't the only services Spotify has to compete with to gain a significant share of the Indian market. Local music streaming services like JioSaavn, Gaana, and Hungama are also quite popular.
I've used that mess of an app called Apple music in my Note 9 and if you think that's good, check out Spotify. At least there you don't have to wait for a minute to load a search suggestion or a song.
That's good news for those who use Ubuntu desktops with Android phones. Finally we get something that keeps our music and podcast synchronised our between our desktop and our mobile phones.
Spotify is too late to the scene. Who needs it when we already have Apple Music which is already kicking Spotify's arse all over the world?
