Anonymous, 13 Jun 2024So can game on it?Haha, e-paper takes 100s of milliseconds to update the image.
This should be good for advertising & billboards.. Look like a paper & easy on the eyes.. Those bright af billboards need to be replaced with this.
Good luck with vandalism. That'll be an issue
So can game on it?
balkanducc939, 13 Jun 2024Let me explain how it works: You maybe think that this screen has a refresh rate in xHz, but... moresounds good all displays need the xHz?
kraken9, 13 Jun 2024I hope in 3-4 years, coloured comics will be available to read on devices like kobo/kindlewhat about the kobo colour ? doesn't it already does that ?
e-ink panels were getting popular in supermarkets with 2-10 inch sizes to be uses as price stickers. it's good to see more brands adopt it. you need to use s 3000-5000 nit display for outdoor screens but, you can do this with almost zero power using e-ink. the only drawback is you need to display static content rather than fancy animations or videos.

Let me explain how it works:
You maybe think that this screen has a refresh rate in xHz, but no. It only consumes power when it needs to refresh the ink in the screen. And technically, when power outage goes out, that billboard will still show that displayed ad on it. Kinda cool.

Similar with Garmin watch, on outdoor light depends on sunlight to brighten pixels and indoors regular backlight.

you don't need energy to display a static frame in an E-ink display. Energy is only needed for changing the frame.
"Speaking of battery, the display itself doesn't consume any power when showing a static image. The only time the TV needs power is when it changes the content on the screen."
How does the diodes not consume power when displaying an image?
This prototype must sooner or later come to phones atleast as an experiment, significantly reducing battery usage
E-ink display and colored e ink display exist
But they are far behind than this
