I can carry it to my college classes and library to do work and study on battery. I can also take it back home, plug it in, and game on it and get 80% of the performance as a desktop. Or I can even take it to someone else's house with the charger and game together!
If AMD really wanted to sway the benchmarks in their favor, they could've benchmarked Factorio and got literally double the performance as the regular CPU. This is hands down the best CPU for trying to build a Factorio gigabase on the go.
Dang! My high end high powered laptop CPU from only 2 years ago has 8 cores, 16 threads, and just 20MB of cache. This is huge progress (although I'd water battery life would suck on a CPU like this).
And it will operate at 70C.

8 cores should be enough for gaming?

A hypothetical dual X3D CCD SKU would have the EXACT SAME thread scheduling problems as the current asymmetric R9 7900/7950X3D + this chip, and the gaming performance would still be no better even when it's working correctly.
Why? The issue isn't that one CCD has V-Cache and the other doesn't, the issue is the MASSIVE latency penalty that happens anytime a core needs to access another core.on the other CCD's L3 cache via the I/O die & Infinity Fabric. Unless you can lock all of a game's threads to a single CCD, you are going to have performance problems, X3D CCD or not.
But while adding a 2nd X3D CCD wouldn't further improve gaming performance, WHATSOEVER, adding a non-X3D CCD allows you to retain the same max single core & 1-8x core load boost clocks as the vanilla part (as compute workloads are generally scheduled onto the higher clocking non-X3D CCD first).
Also, even just since launch a few months ago, the amount of edge cases where Microsoft's thread scheduler + AMD's latest chipset & X3D drivers don't correctly schedule an application/game's threads to the right CCD has reduced SIGNIFICANTLY! Just like happened with OG Zen or Alder Lake, I fully expect these remaining thread scheduling edge cases to get fixed over the next ≈3-6 months or so.

Shalemia, 29 Jul 2023Yeah, and with that TDP expect a 48Wh battery will last less than 1h (if lucky) while playing ... moreCause i need portability, coming from a guy who has a gaming laptop, it's just easier to shift in between cities, also i would need a laptop anyway and shipping pc setup is pain in the behind
Shalemia, 29 Jul 2023Yeah, and with that TDP expect a 48Wh battery will last less than 1h (if lucky) while playing ... moreWell, because you can't just pick up your desktop and go for when you're not gaming...! Obviously...!
Shalemia, 29 Jul 2023Yeah, and with that TDP expect a 48Wh battery will last less than 1h (if lucky) while playing ... moreWell it's more efficient & can sustain better clocks than it's intel counterpart.
Shalemia, 29 Jul 2023Yeah, and with that TDP expect a 48Wh battery will last less than 1h (if lucky) while playing ... moreBecause laptop is portable for all pc works not just gaming while you can use it to game at home . Not all people game at 4k 240fps all the time, many people watch content, read documents, surfing web or many other thing. Someone even do that on "Intel chips" so no reason to complain AMD gaming notebook here.
Yeah, and with that TDP expect a 48Wh battery will last less than 1h (if lucky) while playing games.
Thats the thing i dont understand about gaming laptops, why using laptops for gaming if they need to be all time plugged in and have worse thermals?!
Why not make that CPU for desktop?! Why not end gaming laptops at all?! Well...business.
Like the desktop variants, I don't like the idea of putting the 3D V-Cache only on one of the two CCDs, because it has some drawbacks. The 7800X3D (like the 5800X3D) have only one CCD so they are free of the drawbacks.
I hope the
