LG’s New Patent Reveals a Design with Water Drop Notch
LG has been granted a patent for a smartphone with a Waterdrop Notch display by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
The new patent was filed by A Korean corporation “LG ELECTRONICS INC.” in April this year and was published by the EUIPO on January 18, 2019. The patent shows a water drop notch to house the front camera inside the frame of the device.
One of 2018’s most well-received and popular feature in smartphones, it is needless to point out that the notch is here to stay and evolve. LG is aiming to evolve faster than its competitors. One of the most significant problems with the feature in its existing format is cutting into the screen space (look at the latest OnePlus 6T and Apple devices, and you will know what we mean!) LG is taking a step to resolve this by concealing the notch behind the front camera.
After brands like Apple, Vivo, Huawei, OnePlus and Honor have dominated the market with the same feature, this simple tactic can go a long way in earning LG a new unique selling point. More so, since the feature is in a nascent stage and still evolving, it would be interesting to see how things pan out for LG. Will it deliver the impact inexperience as LG believes, or not, only time will tell.
Nokia 1 Plus Name Confirmed, May Hit The Market Sooner Than Expected.
Nokia, the long-lost market leader, made its entry into the global market with a wide range of Android devices in 2018. And in 2019, with the Nokia 1 Plus, they seem to be zeroing in on the audience with a diverse portfolio.
Now, it is confirmed that Nokia 1’s successor will be officially launched as “Nokia 1 Plus” as it has been listed under Google Play supported devices that only hits towards an imminent launch.
Powered with Android 9 Pie, Go Edition, Google’s very own optimized version entry-level devices with lower RAM configurations, it will feature a MediaTek MT6739 processor paired with a 1GB RAM.
However, it would not have any significant upgrades over its predecessor but will carry the standard features available including Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-fi, dual nano-sim support with 480×960 resolution.
After Microsoft repurchased Nokia in 2016 and introduced Microsoft OS based Lumia devices, the software was not received well both by the wider community. Hopefully, Android 9 Pie provides the much needed pick me up for the company and helps the brand establish itself back in the world of mobile devices.
Nokia 1 plus render and key specs leaked
The Nokia 1 is getting an upgrade to the Nokia 1 Plus and we are delighted to show you this leaked render. We’re able to bring this leak exclusively and we definitely like what we see considering it is a low-end smartphone. The screen resolution and the inner configuration certainly looks promising.
Powered with Android 9, following are some key features reported by the website:
- RAM: 1024 MB; Available memory: 889 MB
- Screen size: 480 x 960
- System on Chip: Mediatek MT6739WW
- GPU: Imagination Tech PowerVR GE8100 (570 MHz)
- 213 DPI
- CPU: 4x ARM Cortex-A53 (1500 MHz)
Nevertheless, the dual nano-sim, connectivity features (the standard GPS, Wifi, micro-USB, and Bluetooth) along with the sensors available in Nokia 1 will be available on Nokia 1 Plus too.
Nokia, once one of the top names in the mobile market, made a comeback into the industry after facing a huge backlash from their audience due to the Microsoft-based OS. In 2019, they are looking at expanding their product portfolio, rolling out hardware updates for the existing phones.
No reports have confirmed the dates for the official unveiling of the phone yet. The details around the price point and camera specifications have not been revealed either. In the advent of the iPhones and Android phones with multiple smart features, Nokia is currently trying to find a strong footing in the industry. Hopefully, Nokia 1 Plus will allow them to capture and retain the budget smartphone audience. Sadly, as it stands the only Nokia phone people would be able to name if you asked the person the street would be the 3310 from yesteryear when pay as you go vouchers and Snake were the cutting edge of the mobile world. Will that change? We hope so, more competition is always a good thing.
