Albanian Prime Minister demands entire Iranian staff to leave the ministry after a cyberattack report

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Wednesday demanded the entire staff of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to vacate the ministry within 24 hours.

This verdict came because of the ongoing disputes with Iran, following a July’s cyberattack initiated by the Iranian hackers which targeted various Albanian government infrastructure. Consequently, the cyberattack has frozen the public services, erased the digital systems and stolen several state records, creating insecurity in the country.

The Albanian Prime Minister stated that during the investigation, it was found that the cyberattack against Iran was sponsored by the Islamic Republic of Iran through four malicious collectives.

The U.S government too, blamed Iran for attacking Albania in July and stated that they will take further action to hold Iran accountable for their actions which threaten the security of a U.S. ally. NATO has also stated that if the malicious actor targets them again, then the decision will be taken by the North Atlantic Council as per Article 5.
