Indian Social Media Platform, Koo Shuts Down After Unsuccessful Talks For Sale Or Merger

Koo- the social media app which was an alternative to X where users were allowed to express their views using Indian languages was founded in 2020 by Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawakta. Well, Koo has now come to an end and will no longer be available for Indian users.

Founder Aprameya Radhakrishna has announced the shutdown of Koo on LinkedIn in a joint post with co-founder Mayank Bidawatka. In the post, the challenges faced by the platform are also mentioned like the cost of technology services, prolonged funding winter, and long-term capital. He also mentioned that platforms like Koo, “ needed a strategic outlook to safeguard it and make it thrive. These aren’t to be looked at as profit-churning machines 2 years from launch. They need to be nurtured for a larger long-term play.”

The co-founders mentioned that the partnership talks fell through. They explored partnerships with multiple larger internet companies, conglomerates, and media houses but these talks didn’t yield a positive outcome. Hence they decided to discontinue the Koo app. They have also thanked their team, investors, creators, and users for their support. While the post ended with a quote, “The little yellow bird says its final goodbye..”
