You will be able to stream popular HBO Originals, HBO as well as Warner Bros. content on JioCinema from next month. Yes, you read it right because Reliance Industries Ltd controlled Viacom 18 and has signed a three-year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal closed at Rs 900- Rs 1,000 crore and somewhere going to work as a magnet for English content-consuming audiences. This deal also includes rights for Viacom 18’s regular television channels.

There were some reports that said that Warner Bros Discovery is looking forward to launching its streaming platform Max in India. But now the launch is on hold and this deal brings an opportunity to serve Indian viewers.

Mint has reported that Discovery was asking for $ 150 million for a three-year deal. After rounds of negotiations somehow it came down to $ 120 million.
“Warner Bros. Discovery’s brands are incredibly popular across India, and we are pleased to partner with Viacom18 to bring our premium HBO, Max Original, and Warner Bros. content to local fans. This new agreement demonstrates our commitment to South Asia as we seek to entertain audiences across more platforms and further strengthens the scale of our regional business as a whole,” Clement Schwebig, president, India, Southeast Asia, and Korea, Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a statement.

Jio is rigorously working to improve its streaming service and the recent step was free streaming of IPL and that too in 4K quality from different angle camera options. Besides these, Jio Cinema has also signed a multi-year, multi-film deal with West Bengal’s popular studio SVF Entertainment for content. It unveiled series and mini originals in order to serve regional language content-consuming audiences. Its expansion of service for all kinds of content lovers in India is somewhere going to boost the number of subscribers.
