🚗💻 The #AutomotiveIndustry's future is undeniably driven by software. Our latest report, "The Road to Softwarization," highlights that nearly one in four automotive companies consider themselves already operating as software companies. With the rise of smart vehicles, #AutonomousCars, and generative AI, the shift towards #SoftwareDefinedVehicles is accelerating. 📈 By 2030, automotive companies expect nearly one-third of their revenue to come from software. Early investments in software are already providing new revenue streams, faster R&D, and enhanced #CustomerExperiences. After facing a series of #AutomotiveIndustry supply chain disruptions in recent years, our research shows that companies have often responded by increasing the stock levels of their parts inventory. This has allowed manufacturing to continue without disruption when supplies were interrupted. Of course, this approach means tying up more working capital in inventory. And often it is the suppliers, rather than OEMs, that end up holding most of the “just-in-case” inventory. This can jeopardize suppliers’ financial stability – especially since suppliers usually pay higher interest rates. Fortunately, there are much better ways to improve resilience. Automotive OEMs are increasingly building vehicles to order, especially in competitive segments like #ElectricVehicles. Many customers want to individualize their cars by selecting their preferred combination of options. Unfortunately, it can then become challenging to predict market demand, mainly because of the huge number of variants that can arise. Mismatches between forecasts of parts needed and actual call-offs may result in all kinds of issues for OEMs, their suppliers, and their customers – from lost orders to lack of trust and wasted resources. A new approach, that we pioneered using the SAP technology platform, can overcome this challenge in a way that legacy solutions never could. Read our latest paper to find out about this new way to drive automotive supply chain agility. 👉 https://bit.ly/4cRIneK #AutomotiveIndustry #OEMs #AutomotiveSupplyChain

Automakers are reducing reliance on procurement from offshore locations – a trend that needs to accelerate. Our study shows that the proportion of parts obtained by automotive companies from offshore locations has fallen rapidly. This reshoring trend is already improving #SupplyChain resilience. We expect reshoring to accelerate, driven by regulatory and government policy, especially around the growing adoption of #ElectricVehicles and semiconductors. This acceleration is vital: It will enable companies to avoid line stoppages, lost sales, and compliance issues resulting from parts shortages.
