A Reflection of the Incredible GM Team

I recently had the incredible honor of being inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame, which reflects the outstanding work and determination of everyone at General Motors as we create a safer, better world. No single person can execute a transformation of the magnitude we are seeing today at GM. It takes a team of purpose-led people who are determined to make a difference. 

As a second-generation GM employee who joined this company more than 40 years ago, this moment is very personal to me – but it isn’t mine alone. I’d like to share some reflections as I think about everything the GM team has accomplished, and why I’m so proud to work alongside them. 

We’re seizing the future – and our commitment is unwavering 

Technology is dramatically reshaping the automotive industry, and bringing our vision to life means doing our part to create the all-electric, #autonomous and software-driven future that will change the world. For a company with our history, it often means rethinking our vehicles and business in a completely different way.

Our teams have embraced this transformation with passion and purpose. We have made major investments that are now paying off in the marketplace, such as the development of our dedicated Ultium Platform – the backbone of our #EVs – and the world-class autonomous vehicles at Cruise . As we scale #EV capacity to more than 1 million units in North America in 2025, it’s incredible to watch our teams innovate, dream big and work hard to deliver to our customers.

Challenges have become growth opportunities  

While the industry’s twists and turns have never been for the faint of heart, it has been the ride of a lifetime. Every day, I am inspired by the tenacity and adaptability of this team because they turn challenges into opportunities to realize our full potential.   

Team members are learning new skills as they transition to work on EV, AV and software programs. In critical areas like supply chain, they’ve brought their expertise and ingenuity forward to create a robust, North-American focused EV materials ecosystem. And we’re supporting entrepreneurship and growth with new businesses like GM Energy , BrightDrop and GM Defense . 

The bottom line is that our teams can tackle anything that comes our way. 

We never forget what matters

We have the ability and responsibility to use our talent and resources to address critical road safety, emissions and congestion challenges facing our world today. But we also want ensure our transformation preserves and builds on the value GM brings to our customers, stakeholders and communities.  

For example, I recently recalled a “full circle” moment from when we celebrated the opening of Factory ZERO, GM’s first fully-dedicated EV assembly plant. It was very powerful to see the facility I managed earlier in my career reinvented as a state-of-the-art launchpad for the next generation of GM’s #electricvehicles. EV production. It’s a true reflection of how we’ve deliberately planned our strategy to celebrate our employee expertise and manufacturing and community footprints.

When I look at everything we’ve accomplished so far and what’s ahead, I am more convinced than ever that there is no other industry or company where I’d rather be. As our journey continues, I can’t wait for the world to see what’s to come.
