Thank you to my alma mater ESIEE PARIS for awarding me the inaugural title of Professor Honoris Causa. I graduated from ESIEE in 1983, with a major in integrated circuit design. The plaque is actually a silicon wafer with the inscription etched in a layer of gold, produced in ESIEE's clean room!

Yann Le Cun est également professeur à l’université de New-York. En présence de Jean Mairesse, Directeur Général de ESIEE Paris, et Daniel NABET, Président du Conseil d'école ESIEE Paris, Yann Le Cun a été honoré pour avoir façonné l'avenir de l'intelligence artificielle avec ses travaux pionniers sur le deep learning. Ses innovations, dont les premières versions de l'algorithme de rétropropagation du gradient développées à ESIEE Paris, ont révolutionné la vision par ordinateur, le traitement du langage naturel et bien plus encore. Congrats Yann LeCun on this well deserved recognition of your incredible contributions to the field of machine learning and computational neuroscience. While I got hooked into the world of neural networks and possibilities of AI by the team of OpenAI Five, back in 2017 and especially in 2018 when we, as a professional team had the chance to play against "the machines", it was your work that has allowed me to connect the dots and start asking questions after questions (upon reading the Five paper I must say I felt it echoing your findings). Two of your papers that particularly stood out for me was your `89 publicatiton on "Generalization and Network Design Strategies" and `86 "Learning Process in an Asymmetric Threshold Network". I found it fascinating how you demonstrated the importatnce of incorporating architectural constraints to enhance the generalization capabilities of neraul networks. As this prompted me to start wondering about the capabilities of an interconnected network of super finetuned models acting as a council of experts... atoms forming molecules -- able to continuously learn. The possibilities are endless! Thanks for being awesome! Cheers!
A case where a University/College is fortunate to have a student who is bound to make his mark in history as a God Father of AI and frankly someone who changed the course of human civilization in some sense. My tribute to you Sir. Most certainly you are an icon of our times. My pranaam to you ( the mark of highest respect in Indian culture). Thank you Arnab
