For the first time ever, Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family's retreat in Scotland since the 1850s, will be open to the public. The castle's entrance hall, red corridor, main and family dining rooms, page's lobby, library, and drawing room are all open for guided tours from July 1 to August 4. The King has made some alterations to the castle, such as replacing the carpets in the drawing room with Hunting Stewart tartan, the original flooring Queen Victoria had installed. Sir Edwin Henry Landseer, a Victorian painter who was adored by Queen Victoria and brought to Balmoral each summer to teach her and Prince Albert in painting, has also had paintings hung by him. Highlights for guests to view include the dinner gong, which was crafted from materials recovered from the British warship Temeraire, which took part in the Battle of Trafalgar, and the chauffeur's whistle, which was once used to summon the driver. King Charles has asked that tea be served on a replica of the White Stewart Tartan China used by the royal family at Balmoral. Twenty-four hours after the guided tours went on sale, tickets costing £100 (or £150 with afternoon tea) for the royal residence could accommodate only forty visitors per day. #TalkSocialToUs #BalmorialCastle #ScottishHistory #TouristAttraction #UKTravel #RoyalFamily #TheSocialTalks
