2024 Forest Fire Season Update 🔥 This summer alone, nearly 20,000 wildfires have ravaged over 2 million acres across the United States. A new report shows that "energetically extreme" wildfires—causing widespread environmental and economic damage—have doubled in frequency and intensity over the past two decades. Despite a global decline in fire incidents, the severity of extreme wildfires is increasing. Wildfire smoke poses significant health risks, contributing to nearly 16,000 excess deaths annually in the US. With projected emissions increases, this toll could soar to 28,000 deaths per year by 2050, exacerbating respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. To address these challenges, tackling the root cause—climate change—is a must. ➡️ Let's take action today: join our effort to restore degraded lands and mitigate future fire risks by planting trees. Together, we can protect communities, ecosystems, and public health from the growing wildfire threat exacerbated by climate change. Source: https://lnkd.in/exGEMiv3 #WildfireSeason #ClimateAction
